Looking forward to the 1199 Panigale | Ducati 1199 - Panigale Track Test They finally did a test video on this bike . . . and the initial impressions were very good. I must say that I am surprised. Go here for the The Track Test Ride & Initial Thoughts I was skeptical because of all of the problems in MotoGP with the frameless prototype. I wonder how low will the cost of the used 1198s drop now? . . . anybody on the wait list for this bike? |

Any Ducati Superbike depreciates like a rock in a vacuum the moment the papers are signed and the bike is making the rounds at the coffee shop. Anyone who bought their 1098/1198 new and is testing the 2nd hand market is already feeling the pain. The new model does not help that situation any but the majority of the damage would have already been done even without the new kid on the block. Porsche Barry has 1 coming and I'm sure others have their deposit down. | |

A friend of mine had an 08 1098s, bought brand new, put over $10k into it, and only put 2200 miles on it. He took a $20,000 hit on that bike when he sold it. That's why it's hard to buy a brand new Ducati. Wait a year, and buy one for a more realistic price ("used" with basically no miles) |

A new Ducati is a trophy to many of the buyers, to us that actually ride, a new Ducati would be ridden hard and enjoyed. With maintenance costs and intervals getting WAY more reasonable, maybe they'll start seeing some miles. Hell, at 2,000 miles its barely broken in. |

Even if it was a Desmo, I'd have to take it for a spin or 10. I'm continually amazed by the guys who bought a 1098R, and it hasn't even cracked 1000 miles yet. They drive it to service and bike nights and that is it....makes me a sad panda. |

I see 08 and 09's here that are about 8-10k, with 2-5k miles, mods, and not a scratch. Even the Ducati dealer here is selling this one for 10.9. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/mcd/2855122164.html |

I bought if for it's beauty, sound and performance. It has lived up to my expectations, except for the fuel range. It's like riding an electric bike, I need to look for gas at 80 miles and better find it before a hundred. About the only thing I did not check when buying was the range. ![]() It's a 2009 model that I bought in 2010 and only has 6000 miles on it now. The reason for so few miles is I have the bennefit of having another bike with a much bigger tank that I ride much more often. I want to sell it and get the multistrada. The multistrada will fill all wants except the dry clutch and overall street performance. It does have a 5.5 gallon tank and can get close to 200 miles per tank. The 1198s in my opinion is meant for the track only, and ducati pretty much said that, I just didn't listen. If it turns out I will take too much of a hit, I may just keep it to look at. |

| Chicken Strips Joined: Jul 2009 From: the Hill Country I Ride: for escapism | Ducatis do seem to hold their value better than most bikes. Just as an example, I bought a '08 R6 brand-spanking new (dumb mistake #1), sold it 2 years later w/ 6K miles and no drops for...4K. About a 75% decrease in value. Anyways....since we've completely jacked the OPs thread; How about that there Panigale? I bet it's a blast to ride, but for some reason in comparison to the 1098/848/1198, the fairings just don't look complete to me. It doesn't have that same sex appeal....maybe just because I'm used to the last generation of superbikes. |

| Peg Dragger Joined: Aug 2011 From: Tanasbourne, OR I Ride: 2008 R6, 2007 S2R 1000 | ![]() OTOH, none of us are in MotoGP, and practically none of us are going to be pushing the bike to its very limits. The shortcomings of the "frameless" design simply won't be anything worth thinking about. As a street bike, this thing is beautiful, (hopefully) reliable, and a real monster. Can't ask for much more than that. |
