I'm in the same boat OP, completely for financial reasons. A year's worth of minimum liability insurance was half the value of my entire bike. No way in hell.

1) Liability insurance doesn't do shit for your bike. A comparison in the cost of the two is meaningless.

2) Compare the cost of liability insurance with everything that you own and how much you make a year. That is what you will be getting sued for when you hit someone.

Yeah, I get that. Where I was going with that is that if I had the kind of obscene money liability insurance would cost I wouldn't be riding this cheap ass POS bike.

WOW! How did you get THAT? I'm saying riding with no insurance is like using dirty needles, you'll probably get away with it for awhile. WHEN it DOES (and it will) it's gonna bite you in the ass, and you'll be thinking "WOW, WTF was I thinking?". Only then it will be too late to do anything about it.

I STILL think it's crazy that the state of Washington encourages the worst drivers (highest insurance cost due to bad driving records and high risk group) with little or no financial security (hey, if you're the "player" you THINK you are you'd be able to afford the insurance to C.Y.A.) to ride bikes instead of cars.

I can't decide if it's Washington's idea for an un-employment solution or if it's just state imposed Darwinism.
