Oh you mean all the riders with the full monty bluetooth intercom/radio/music/phone set up???

How about the Cats that actively use a GPS while riding?

I bet there isnt over 10% of this forum that could honestly say they rarely use their phones while driving. And the percentage of hands free users would not be much higher....,honestly

Idaho texting ban goes into effect July 1st. I see nothing about using the phone while driving though.

I almost got side swiped on the freeway Monday as I was riding home to Hermiston from Tri Cities by some stupid woman who was talking on her phone and either looked to see who else was calling her or to see if she had dropped the call. Then got mad at me for being in my lane or something.
I do know that Oregon especially OSP and Hermiston will write you a ticket in a heart beat for talking or texting.

If we could get roadside execution for DUI that would be progress.

Only those who take it on the road. A roadside memorial for the dumbass who was driving drunk instead of the people he killed might make a dent, but I doubt it.

The law is there, it just needs to be enforced with a vengeance.
I do a bit of bicycle commuting and part of my path used to bring me through the UW campus. As I waited for a cross walk one afternoon I noted the number of drivers going past with a cell phone clearly glued to their heads.

Very nearly 100%, including cops (but they get a pass because I know they have cat like reflexes and are trained in ninja phone ops while driving)

I believe in peoples rights and the use of common sense.
The level of attention required to operate those devices is almost nil, you don't even have to take your eyes off the road. Not much different than adjusting the volume on your radio. Not so when you have to look away, refocus your attention and eyes, read tiny fucking text, look back up, rinse and repeat until you've hunt and pecked your reply.

I could see something like that getting abused, real quickly. I believe in giving a citizen a chance to fight for their right, in most issues. So by giving someone a legal ability to invade you like that, and destroy your property, is ridiculous.

That said, I too notice a trend in people talking on their phones while driving. And yes, a good chunk of the people who almost run me over seem to be on their phone.

And people caught breaking the law in a more 'major' way (speeding 10+, swerving, failing to stop, etc.) should be liable for a bigger ticket if they were on the phone.

I don't text or talk on a cell phone while driving. I can count on one hand the number of times I've answered my phone while driving and still have a finger left over to pick my nose, and I never make a call. When I did answer the phone it was because it was the 4th time my wife called in the last two minutes, and i answered long enough to tell her "I'm driving, I can't talk, goodbye".

I don't appreciate it when I see drivers do stupid stuff near me while they are obviously distracted by something else like a phone. However, i find it laughable how over the top some of you people act about phones. Despite whatever bullshit statistics have been compiled, i question the wisdom that cell phones distract people to the degree some of you nutjobs portray.

But WTF, let's go with it for a minute. Truth is, it's not just phones that distract people. I don't see you people demanding we do something about all the other crap that distracts drivers from...well, fucking driving. Crap like eating fast food, putting on make up, fiddling with radios/tvs/stereos/cbs, or messing with gps or aaa maps, reading news papers or phone books, shaving, adjusting heaters or air conditioners, picking up stupid shit off the floor that fell off the dashboard like stuffed animals, or having real animals sitting in the lap, or smoking, or getting a blowjob. I've seen all that crap and a whole lot more. And then there's the biggest distraction of all...the thing that distracts me the most...passengers!

When are you cell phone whiners going to start demanding we do something about all that shit? When are we going to outlaw all those activities that have nothing to do with actual driving? When are we going to rip radios and air conditioners out of cages? When are you going to demand we rip passenger seats out of cars and get rid of the biggest distraction of all...passengers that never shut up?

Oh, I forgot, you're not...because you whiners do all that shit!

Unless you advocate doing something about all that other crap that distracts people as much or more than cell phones, everytime you start whining about cell phones...I'm left to conclude that you're a full of shit sniveling little fucking hypocrit that should be ignored...or maybe have your tongue cut out.

That is all.

Hell then taverns would go out of business as all the cruiser riders doing the pub to pub thing would be dead!!

Oh please..,people today have no common sense and when caught at it hire lawyers to get out of the consequences for their retarded behavior. Thats the system that gets abused.
Innocent until proven guilty HA!!
Cant lock a person up because they are stupid or ignorant. Can only try when they break out in symptoms of it

Yea!!! rep worthy rank!!!!

Drove interstate truck and saw all that stuff. Hell, truckers do everything while driving, including pissing in jugs etc.

But alas I do all that shit too......,except drink and do drugs. Got over that in my cronic youth....,

Nothing distracts like a cell phone call. Adjusting the radio, eating, applying makeup: all of those activities take your attention away for a moment or two at a time, and you can time it for when you're stopped and such.

But, a cell phone call demands constant concentration to listen and respond, and the person you are talking to has no idea what you are doing at that moment, so they don't shut the fuck up when you're entering an intersection or trying to figure out what exit to take, as someone sitting next to you and talking to you would. A person sitting next to you also is another set of eyes and ears, so you are actually safer having someone sitting next to you while driving.

Texting is even more distracting and takes your hands off the steering wheel. That's lunacy.

if he can do it, so can we it's called swipe and who needs to pay attention.

rpappi and BombR76 oh please do get those jammers, they're awesome, and the first time you pass by any sort of accident I'll be calling you in for interfering with law enforcement, safety, and anything else I may remember seeing you do. you did get that so people cant call you in while you're lane splitting right ?

seriously people, stop trying to police everyone, we pay people for that. it's called personal responsibility. but hey if you want us to police one another, than lets start. where's the next ride ? let me call in some speeding motorcycles in the area, or should we stick to just highways ? you know those bikes that go more than the speed limit, yea I know it's just "1-2"mph faster than traffic, but thats still illegal right ?

careful of the can of warms you chose to open. all you're doing is making the issue worse. when they made texting and talking on phone illegal, it didnt stop or slow down, people just learned to be more sneaky at the expense of paying even LESS attention to the road. instead of holding the cell phone near the steering wheel so you can see the phone and the road, now people are hiding their phone next to the shifter and only moving their eyes down.

this law put us in more danger than before imo.

who really gives a shit about cel phones. you ban them and the next thing you know people get distracted by boobs running by, playing with the radio, putting on eyeliner, petting their dog, slapping their kids. fuck remove the turn signal knob too, you dont want to play with that or you might get into an accident.

face it, you ride a motorcycle. get over it, people will still use cel phones. i personally can walk and chew gum at the same time and have no problems driving with a phone in one hand. either you are a retard and cant drive (most of the planet falls into this category) or you can. if you cant deal with having cars swerve into you from time to time, get off your bike and park it.

i was riding before people had cel phones. trust me, they did not need the help of a cel phone to drive like retards.

the ops idea of impounding personal property is not good IMO. the government should have no right to impound personal property unless it is evidence in a felonious act. we dont need any more retarded ideas for government agencies to strip away more of our rights. next thing you know ideas like this lead to the government impounding whatever they see fit. thanks but no.
