they revealed it at the olympics...impressive specs actually!! 62 mile range + regenerative breaking, and recharge in possibly under 3 hours

pricepoint between $9,000 and $10,000

8 kW of electrical storage

Output ranges from a continuous 11 kW (14.75 hp) to a peak 35 kW (46.93 hp); BMW claims their electric 'scoot can keep pace with 600+ cc maxi scooters.

cruising range is estimated at 62 miles

regenerative braking adds 10 to 20 miles of range

some reports claim the batter can be charged 0-100% in under 3 hours.

Good power for electric, actually great range considering the compact size, and a FAST recharge time in comparison to other E-vehicles.

I could see these catching on in metro areas for the young proffesional. Not here but Europe for sure. Especially areas that have restricted motor vehicles use to reduce innercity smog.

Isn't the "fast" charge just a product of limited capacity? Larger capacity equals longer charge times. Which E-vehicles are you comparing it with?

you clearly know nothing about electric vehicles. For people in big cities, only going 10-20 miles a day, this would cost mere cents per day in electricity. It's not a long highway commuter, it's a city commuter. And of CURRENT electric vehicles, it's pretty damn good.

yes electric technology isn't quite there yet, but we have to get something into the market, and this is a great start! It'll sell like nuts in Europe, especially china and to the wealthy of india.

It's not my thing either. But...

The first cars that were trying to replace a horse and buggy probably got the same response. "What? I have to stop every 50 miles and put gas in it? It stinks? It dumps oil and crap everywhere? ... These things will always just be a toy for some rich guys who like the novelty." And, at first, they were right. But as engineers learn from those early-adopters the new tech matures and eventually catches up. It becomes a competitive option and then a superior one.

I'm glad people are buying the Volt, Prius, Tesla, and this thing. They can help work out the technical issues so they'll be ready to use when I'm ready to buy.
