About 10 miles too slow.

I usually drive 70-75 MPH, but on my motorcycle I'm doing 78-80 MPH.

....are worthless when you don't provide enough training on how to control a vehicle with competence at any speed or how to select an appropriate speed for prevailing conditions.

But probably want you want to know...... About right in Urban areas and too low everywhere else, in varing degrees.

10 miles too low is a good call. Maybe even 15 too low on the freeway.
I'd like to see the variable speed limits vary according to more reason.
Freeways empty, and no rain = 70-75. Traffic, rain, dark = 55.

In cali people drive 80 no problem.
Here, can't even get people to do the speed limit on 99 through lynnwood.

Interesting to say the least.

Most folks where I live drive according to what traffic & weather permits. The average speed is around 80, and I've been tailgated and passed at that speed. I usually keep it to about 5 over to keep insurance possible. (could very easily be priced right out of affordable) What is particularly irritating is being passed on both sides, while being pulled over by the police...AJ

I like to go a little faster then the majority of traffic when I am on the bike...... so when the speed limit is 60 I go 70.... or if traffic is going 70 I'll go 75. I've passed cops doing this and haven't had any issues (knock on wood) however I'm not on a true sport bike so that may help with not being stopped.

Problem is then you are askig people to show judgement. Sadly many people are not capable of said trait. Would be awesome. I kind of like the old Montana philosophy of speed limits but the national level of government didn't... On top of that the problem is that it became a 'Careless and Wreckless operation of a vehicle' citation. What one officer thought was safe and prudent could be another officers careless.

I loved driving in France, speed limits on the freeway ( which weren't actually freeways cause they are all toll highways) were 145km/h on the slow end. Thats 90.xx MPH.

Is there speed limit on german autobahns? I remember I was in the car with my uncle and he was doing over 200 km/h

I wonder about the 50 mph speed limit for the 2-3 miles on 99 through Lynnwood. No one ever goes that speed, and with all the side traffic, I don't think it makes sense most of the time. Also, if the cities really want to make a difference in both traffic and environment, they should sync the lights at least during rush hours.

Most of it now has a speed limit, because there's been so many on-ramps/exits added in the last couple decades. The difference in stretches of road without speed limits from the first time I went there in '98, and went back in '03 was really noticeable. So most of the autobahn has a speed limit, and I think the stretches without only apply to the leftmost lane.

if the speed limits were 15-20-100mph faster, would you be happy? or would you have posted the same thread about 125mph school zones being too slow?

The difference between the autobahn and us freeways is that germans are meticulous about maintaining their cars and driving education, whereas here most americans couldnt give a flying F____ about how their car runs or any kind of training. While I would love to see higher speed limits , I also have to imgaine the 85' chevy truck (insert any jolopy that are all over the roads)beat to crap rolling down the freeway at the same speed with some ass behind the wheel.
