Ducati black... help please
2011 Ducati 1198sp. The black is called Daimond black.

As a painter, my experience tells me that the color has flake or pearl in it based off the name. But the bike owner (who I am hesitant to trust because maybe he has never noticed) says its just gloss solid black.

Who actually knows? I have race body work prepped for paint, with no parts to match it to, as the owner is out of town for two more weeks. Short of driving to the dealership with my "sun gun" light, I'm hoping I can get a solid answer here.

Ducati Diamond black, solid black? Or pearl/flake in it?!

Pretty sure they have metallic in them.

Thats a tough one. After doing a little searching I can't find an answer. Better go to the dealer tomorrow and look if you want to be on the safe side!

Right?! I've done online searching with no answer. I'm hoping to hear from another owner on here to verify. If it does have pearl/flake, I'll be ordering paint from color-rite and up goes the cost.
Thanks

I have a 2009 Duc - dark 1198

It has a little blue flake in it and Ducati would not give me the mix formula without buying from them. (pissed me off).

Colorrite matched it really dam good

Color-rite paint sucks. Wont ever buy anything from them again. Overpriced garbage.

I did find this. Don't know how accurate it is. http://www.ducatimotor.it/articoli/setupcolori.htm

Thanks for the input! If only I had a loose fairing to match color to.
I have until the end of this week to figure this out.
Color-rite is so overpriced for the amount you get, it's stupid.

I'm pretty torn. Diamond black on the diavel in all the pictures I have seen looks to be solid.

I tried looking for the 1198 in diamond black and I can't tell if they're all like this but I do see this metallic.

I tend to think just do the solid black. If it is truly Diamond Black which all the Diavels I've seen are just solid gloss black then there you go. If he hasn't seen any effect in it before I doubt he'd notice it missing

Judging by the cost to replace painted panels on my 1199, the metallic must consist of the powdered bones of orphans. Good luck finding that.

Amazing information, now if only I could track down akzo paint, as that code doesn't cross reference to any ppg lines! Lol
Very much appreciated. Thank you

Color-rite ordered. Setting up a business account made the price a little better.
Thanks again for all the input
