On a lot of mixed use paths in Seattle there are designated lanes for foot traffic and ones for wheels (bikes, skateboards, roller blades, etc).

Depending on which way you're going on your bike, you could be passing people to their left OR to their right.

Usually snapping my brakes is enough to get their attention. If not yelling ain't gonna help so I just ride around them. Half the time they just get startled.

That is my theory as well. They seem to take the "left/right" as an instruction instead of a warning and do the blatantly wrong thing. I simply call out "Passing" or just ride on by because they can't react incorrectly until after I'm already past.

what do you do if you're:

walking your bicycle,
riding a unicycle,
carrying a bike or unicycle in a backpack,

do you follow the pedistrian or bicyclist rules?

does a unicycle have mixed rules because it has only one wheel?

does a baby jogger help you get away with bicyclist rules?

shouldn't it really be called a baby pusher since the baby really isn't jogging?

it's near portland, except bikes aren't allowed on sidewalks since they're only for pedestrians, hence you can only walk or carry your bikes on the sidewalk.

Yes. I will be pushing one of these around this spring, and will do my part to take up as much of the lane as I want. Wannabe racers buzzing me will get sharp elbow. Fat guys will get body-checked into the next tree.

You've never ridden a bike for any appreciable distance, have you? There are quite frequently, times when it is eminently appropriate (and totally legal, I might add) to 'take the lane'. Just like on a motorcycle, it's usually to keep cagers from killing you, and on a bike, one has even less options.

On a bicycle it could do that or just get you enveloped in a cloud of diesel smoke depending on the company you're in.
Bicycle=no reasonable expectation of right of way on the road (legal or not) or on a walking path.
