(Vent) Almost taken out two times in two blocks this morning.

I just need to vent a bit.

So on the way into work this morning in Salem, I almost got taken out two times within two blocks. First time was coming over the Salem bridge (from West Salem)... old guy in a Ford Exploder signals and figures that means you can change lanes without looking. I see it in plenty of time to react, so I do and move to go around him to the left with the sumbitch sees me and moves back over. We're in the curve at this point already and I can't go right, so I have to do an emergency move to the extreme left. I missed him by INCHES. At least I got to glare at him on the way by. It's a good thing I was on my DR650 this morning because its so flickable. Had I been on my FZ1, I probably would have hit him.

Then two lights later, just as it turns green and I get ready to go, some young black guy in a Saturn blows through the intersection from the right going at least 40-45 (in a 25 zone). Fortunately I use my eyes unlike most cagers and stayed off the throttle. F an A.

I really want to start running a "dash cam" or something on the bikes. Heck, I wish motorcyclists could volunteer to be deputized or something so we could go after this idiots and do something about it besides kick their ass.

LOL. I didn't post my shitty commute to work yesterday for this exact reason. Knew somebody would say something like this. Had 2 people turn left in front of me. One guy saw me last second and stomped on the left pedal. The other guy I bout T Boned but I had let up just enough to stop in time coming into the intersection

I dunno... maybe there should be a section specifically for posting stuff like this. Then we can point politicians, police, and whomever at it and say look, can we please do something about these idiots?

So, do you have any ideas what to do about this, or are you just expecting "politicians, police, and whomever" to handle it for you? Have you ever tried speaking directly with your state and local elected officials to discuss the problem?

BTW: On the subject of your Exploder, a bit of calmness and a bit of roll off on the throttle might save you a bit of exasperation. Might cost you a full .5-3 seconds on the commute, but it isn't NASCAR. Anyway, why in such a hurry to get to work?

Get a camera for your helmet. Won't stop bad shit from happening, but will provide evidence of the situation while you're being scraped off the road. None of that "he said/she said" bullshit.

Of course, this means that you'll have to be sure to obey all traffic laws while the camera is rolling...

Yep we have close calls all the time. It sucks and it's unfair. I can always take my truck if I want to go somewhere. People still do the same stupid shit, but it's big and in most cases would win.

As a motorcyclist and when a Big Truck driver it would amaze Me at all the stupid, weird and surprising things people do will driving their cages.
Then I noticed how horribly I drive MY Cages and pickups!!
Now to keep from getting pissed while riding I tell myself," I've done that"

"I could do that move so much better/smoother/stupider"

"OH WOW!!!! How utterly ridiculous!!! I would never ever dream of doing that!!! Cant wait to try it out next time I"M IN MY CAR!!!"

I run my contourHD which is stuck to the side of my helmet almost 100% of the time now, just for this exact reason. I am very happy when nothing eventful is recorded and just hit the delete button at the end of the day.

.....no you don't need to vent.....you need to work out how to be self sufficient and practice getting to the point where you just say, 'wow....ok.' Then its over in that moment. You will enjoy life & riding more, imho.

Why is you need your voice to be heard? If you feel there was something you could have done better to ensure your safety, do it. If you are feeling lucky to be alive because of just one of the million things that could kill you today didnt, have a beer. FnA.
