A couple explanations; 1. Doing paper. Many officers save their reports for the end of shift and like to go to a coffee shop to type paper. I easily spend 4 hours in a 12 hour shift doing paper. I had 3 1/2 hours of paper this morning on a DUI. 2. Working at overtime security detail. After the four officers were killed in Lakewood, many coffee shops went to paid security for the safety of their staff and customers.

| Race Qualifier | You know who hates cops like that more then anybody in this thread? The good cops. I can tell some of you do not have friends or family who are officers. I do, and their opinion of guys like that pretty strong. There were almost no cops back in the wild west days. Plenty of robberies back then, and whoever had the gun that was the most accurate at a further distance won the argument. |

Although it doesn't matter since your obvious lack of intelligence, and failure to grasp reality are enough that my mere presence in this thread makes me look smarter when compared to you. |

Anyway. I see your point and understand why you may have that opinion of police officers. Personally, I don't like anyone who works for the WSP. I think the vast majority of them are useless, rude, and out to get my money; but that's just me. When I think of local police departments, I can't remember an instance when they actually prevented a crime. For the most part, they simply show up after the fact and write reports. They do, however, hang around protests and try to maintain the peace.

| Race Qualifier | ![]() What do you compare it to? A modern utopia without police? You expect the police to eliminate or almost eliminate all crime? Please, design a building that couldn't be brought down with controlled explosions. It's just as realistic of a goal. |

If police can't provide that, then let's stop fooling ourselves and pretending they can. How do we measure the effectiveness of police? By what testable means can we determine if they are cost effective? By cost, i don't just mean money. When I go to work, it is easy to determine if I'm doing a good job. If I bring a building in on budget, on schedule, without a lot of errors or omissions, I have done a good job. If not, I haven't. Pick a category of crime...say motorcycle theft? How many bikes were stolen this summer? How many bike thieves were caught? How many bikes were recovered? What efforts were made to catch the thieves and recover the bikes? Were the police effective? Sorry, but I don't see the police effectively protecting and serving. In fact, I see the opposite. For sure, some of the problem lies with the police themselves, but I'm not even laying all the blame on them. They are being asked to do a job that isn't even possible. They can't even protect themselves, much less protect me. |
