Ouch, reminds me of the time I was flying down a hill on a cyclocross bike (of the pedaling variety), hit a rock that shifted under the front wheel and tacoed the front rim. Of course that turned out to be the least of my problems when I unwrapped it from a tree 25 feet down the road.

it's not 4 hours each way. it takes me 3.5 to drive to portland. i can make it to PDX in about three hours on my bike.

I did the same thing on the street..

It was dark/night time.
I was cruising up to the store, and there was a chunk of pavement cut out of the ground for maintenance or something.. No markings.. it was about 18" square and about 14" deep.

I missed it with my front tire squarely nailed it with my back tire..

Stepped the whole backend out for a second.. I thought I'd popped a tire (didn't see the hole or actually know what happened)

Still holding air..

Got to the store and saw the giant fuck in the rim. They were the stock baer hoops.

That's why I ended up putting the black rims on. I don't have a pic of the actual bent rim... but I have before after.
