I Ride: Ninja 650 or somebody elses.
Will someone 'look' at my brake lines?
I've installed them on cars and trucks, but never on a bike. Is the angle OK on these, I was only concerned with this one part pictured.





I couldn't for the life of me figure out which end was supposed to go which way with all the crazy bendy bits. This way seemed to require the least amount of persuasion so I went with it. I bled them, they seem to work fine. As previous posts might have led on, I'm no bike mechanic. (yet)

As long as you have no leakage, the banjo bolt secured and new copper washers installed you should be fine. I see nothing that stands out as incorrect. When upgrading to new SS lines, it can be a little challenging as the line head angles seem a tad strange.

I Ride: 2009 Yamaha R1, 2007 CBR 600RR, 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 and 2014 Ducati Panigale 899.
Looks fine to me. As long as it doesn't bind up or rub on anything with the bars turned either way. The slight bend in the hoses after the banjos is fine too, as long as there isn't any kinks or stress on the banjos. I used the rubber tie that held my stock lines with the braided lines also.

I was a bit worried about the little bit of persuasion they needed to line up and connect to the master cylinder. Maybe that's just a function of them being relatively inflexible steel lines....

You dont want too much stress at the fitting, where its crimped onto the hose. Turning left and right is a start, but remember the forks contract and extend, as well. Another thing to watch for is actual sawing of fairing parts. The hose can cut into plastic parts.

Thats my input. Maybe see how that kink is when running the hoses behind the fork leg, above the lower triple clamp.

I'm confident that there is no sawing or kinking. Other than where the double banjo goes into the master cylinder, it's a straight shot. The only point of stress is the one I showed up top. Does this look right on the caliper?

I'll now assume any zoom-splatting while riding will the fault of the rider and not the brakes.

Did you try them with the bend at the master and not the caliper? Hard to tell from the picture, but they look too tight to me.

What brand are they? Did they come with instructions? I prefer Spiegler, as their lines will allow you to turn the fitting ends to ensure they line up exactly how you want them. They seem to do a little better r&d with their lines as I haven't had a set that didn't look spot on. Now galfer on the other hand....

Minor thread hijack, how difficult is it to disconnect and move them around? PO routed the SS line over the ignition, really annoying to put the key in/out.

From what I can see; (which doesn't cover reservoir to caliper, or how much slack for fork travel and bar side to side) Those bends look OK. Assuming your kit was designed for your bike there should be enough slack depending how your route them. On my GALFER Kit there was more than enough slack although I routed differently because the braided steel needed slightly different routing to lay properly. (slightly larger radius than the more flexible factory rubber) I purchased rubber coated wire holders and using stainless Allen head bolts; along with zip ties, obtained a clean installation. After you complete the job compress the suspension with someone looking if possible and turn the bars full lock side to side. Also apply firm pressure and check for leaks. There should be a note in your instructions for in/lb torque on both ends of the banjo bolts. After the first ride I rechecked again, for leaks and chafing...AJ

You pretty much throw away a set of copper banjo gaskets each time you break the torque on the banjo bolt once its been given a final torque down. The gaskets are conforming to ridge rings in the fittings to form the high pressure resistant seal, and there is no re-expanding that copper gasket once its been crushed down on.

Its one of those things where you make damn sure everything is where you want it BEFORE you torque things down.

I spent a lot of time routing and rerouting my lines before finalizing their location. Measure twice, cut once sorta thing.

Well I looked at them, and they look fine to me. If you want me to 'look' at them as well, you'll have to explain the difference between looking and 'looking' to me. I've said "look" so many times, "look" almost seems like a nonsensical word now. Look, see what I mean?

Any chance they're upside down? Those long straight ends look more normal for a caliper end, and that 45 degree bends might work better at the master cylinder end. My Spiegler lines have about 5 degrees of bend at the caliper, and both a 30 degree and a 45 degree bend at the master cylinder so they stack together. Obviously different bike, but that is how mine fit. If the two caliper bends look different on the right and left, they're probably upside-down.

That is a distinct possibility. They seemed to fit this way better but I don't really have a clue. The directions didn't mention a thing and neither did the service manual. You let me make the decision and hell, who knows?!
