Question Tire rating ?
Are you ok with W rated tires @ 168 mph limit?
What about Z rated for 149+?

What tire do you feel safe on going 175 mph?

Z rated are 149+, not max, so I'm more than comfy at 175 on a Z rated tire. I don't think Z rated tires are necessary for most tracks (excessive straights being the caveat) but I run them anyway. I'm sure a W rated tire would work just fine on most bikes, particularly 600cc and lower class.

I upgraded to 2CT's thinking they would be great. They are - on normal roads and occasional twisties. Not that great on the track (except in rain).

Next tire I go with for the track is a Pilot Race or the new Corsas (both Z).

Nope, Z rated. The size and model numbers make it a little confusing but here's a snapshot from the P website:



120ZR front and 180-190ZR rear... not sure what the (73W) is for...

Great question Buz... One I've wondered myself.

Why do the ratings read like that?

149+???? up to....???

I'll admit, the rating on the PP's that say "up to 168" don't do much for my confidence at speed... Not that I spend much time above that #, but it would be nice to know that they are safe at 175-180....

just an FYI, the rated speed is the maximum speed the tire can handle for ten sustained minutes

Ok...so what speed can the Z rated tire handle for 10 minutes? 149+??? Plus what? 10? 20?

The ratings make no sense to me...

Ok, wait a second. You all are crazy. The Pilot Power, Power 2ct, Corsa III and Qualifier are all ZR rated. 186+ mph. You guys are fine. I haven't gone past 80mph so I was never worried.

Yes tires are overrated, but when you're flying low their very handy.

The 73W is a weight rating.

70W = 739 lbs
72W = 783 lbs
73W = 805 lbs
