LAS VEGAS marriage pics. Picture Heavy!
Married in Vegas - 11/11/08

Yup, after 36 years of life with no kids and no previous marriages, I got hitched this past Tuesday at noon on top of the Stratosphere to the best woman a guy could want...
beautiful, genuinely stand-up funny, smart, cutest walk, loves to ride, loves to kick my ass at video games, talks more shit than me, and can put up with my shit. Perfect.

Pic of me and the new wife (me with the black shirt and her with the black and white dress).

We decided since her family is West Coast, my family is East Coast that we would keep it informal and make it somewhere fun in between. Somewhere everyone can focus on the destination and not the wedding.

Our choice was to ask everyone to meet in Vegas on Nov.10th. We decided to do it on top of the Stratosphere tower on the observation deck since it was something different, non-relig., outdoors and 900 feet up.

Looking up to the top of the Stratosphere.

There are 3 roller coasters on the level of the observation deck. Here is one that is basically a car sitting on a short track. The track tilts forward and the car slides forward a few feet on a decline and faces down towards the ground.

Looking towards the strip.

We flew into Vegas and got these views out the window of the plane.

Stratosphere to the right. It was at the extreme north end of the strip. I would describe the gambling areas in Vegas as having the strip (mostly newer casinos and hotels) and downtown (old school Vegas/Freemont St.) and outerlying strip casinos.

Go-cart track.

Mining operation. You can barely make out the HUGE yellow earth mover dumptruck (right of center) in this picture. I think we were still at about 10,000 feet.

Don't know if this was smoke from forest fires or smog in the distance.

Landing.

We stayed at the historic Golden Nugget in downtown, old Vegas. Jenn went to Vegas for the 1st time last year, stayed on the strip with some friends and had a shit time. She wanted to do all the things she missed the last time and I knew old Vegas had a completely different feel to it.

Golden Nugget where everything was gold. Everything. Everywhere.

Out of our window towards downtown.

Golden Nugget pool with the slide through the shark tank.

The Golden Nugget borders Freemont Street. Freemont is a pedistrian walk closed to traffic and is shrouded in an overhead canopy that becomes one large video screen after dark. It is bordered on both sides by a lot of the old Casinos (Binions, Golden Nugget, Mermaids, Freemont St. casino, the Californian, Four Queens, Bayou, the Plaza, Main Street, etc.), souvenier shops and liqour stores. While we stayed on Freemont St. the National Firemen's Challenge was taking place. Fireman from all over country were competing in various challenges relating to firefighting including dragging dummies over a course and another contest where they climbed 4 flights of stairs with full equipment and then rappeled up weights. I saw a couple of near local fd's including Everett.

Freemont Street. I could have stayed exclusively downtown near Freemont, skipped the strip and stayed near Freemont the whole time. We didn't but I could have.

Colorful Freemont to say the least.

Far left is the Golden Nugget, then Pioneer Gift Shop, center is a display on the overhead screen. Mermaids is right to center - $3.50 Long Islands, free beads and $.99 fried Twinkies. It was our late night spot.

Golden Nugget at the center.

Fitzgeralds, an Irish themed casino to the left. Four Queens to the center.

Bikes in a hamster wheel.

Buffets and dinner specials everywhere.

Freemont light show. If I can get a video up, I will. Best one was a very loud show based on the song Freebird involving sky diving. Awesome. The rest of the shows were okay. Every hour on the hour from 6 pm to midnight.

The Golden Nugget.

Went down to the strip for a day. We took the Deuce for $2 each and each way down to see the Predator Aquarium at Mandalay Bay ("the only one of its kind!"), paid our $17 each and saw some smaller sharks and some jellyfish. Not really worth the trip but cool in a way if it was like $4 instead. We went north up the strip.

Puffer fish!

Luxor.

NyNy. I was itchin for some pizza and saw this place. When folded the pizza started to drip oil all over the plate and my shirt and I knew this would be decent pizza. Taste 7.5 out of 10. Texture and thickness 8.5. Crust a 6. Sauce a 7. I got the Sausage.

Went here and saw these.

Not sure who the guy was sitting in their cage with them but he had cool tats.

Continued north on the strip until we got to the M&M place. Free tour and 3-D movie.

M&Ms everywhere. 4 floor of M&Ms. One of my favorites.

I thought the cufflinks and $400 purses made from old M&M wrappers was excessive.

Had to go here to eat. Double Fat Burger.

For the Harley fans.

Chihuly art in the Bellagio.

All chocolate. Bellagio.

Talking trees in the Arborateum.

Bellagio fountains.

Caesars was huge.

Bikes in the lobby of Treasure Island.

Saw the Circue show Mystere at Treasure Island. After seeing many Broadway shows this show was that much better. Think Barnum & Baileys Circus, Pee Wees Playhouse, the movie Mullholland Drive all mixed in together. Awesome show.

My final take on it was drink and gamble in old Vegas downtown, club on the strip, buffet and eat fried $.99 twinkies downtown, see a Circue show on the strip, go downtown to get comp'd drinks and gamble till 5 AM and go to the strip for a nice dinner.

Good for you, I got married in Vegas on April 1 this year. We go twice a year and always stay at the Luxor. I like that end with MGM, NYNY, Excalibur all right there. Looks like you had a great time. Congratulations.

You know how to turn a FOX into a PIT BULL?

You marry them!

I've been happily married nine times and what my daddy told me as a kid was TRUE! You never really know a woman until you divorce her!

Congratulations on the wedding! Now we want to see some pictures of the honeymoon!

Thanks Orhun. Yeah, we are kind of planning that type of thing. We're saving up from some Eurorail passes and flight and we're going to take about a month off and do some backpacking and hosteling in Europe - including Turkey. I can't wait.

Cool, another Vegas marriage. Seemed like the right place to do it and we didn't want anything too traditional, flashy or requiring too much prep and $$$. Luxor was cool although I didn't go inside and see the wacky elevators.

Cool. Did you do the "Say I do" package? The one we did was the only one not in a chapel and outdoors so thats what we picked.

No, I didnt ride the coaster on the Stratosphere or the one in NYNY. Im kind of a roller coaster affectionado and my wife rode the one at NYNY and wasn't crazy about it. I trusted her on that and we skipped it this time. I did want to do the one on top of the Stratosphere that spins around off the edge but things were too crazy at the time with 2 different families there. Next time.
