2001 triumph 600tt street fighter 1300obo
I have a bike that runs great. Problem is that it wont go into gear. The bike Starts and runs fine but everytime i put it into gear then it kills it. I think the clutch is frozen but I'm not sure. Also i have the title and bill of sale made out to me but just never got around to putting it in my name. I dont have the time,money, or knowledge to fix it. Im looking to sell it for 1300 obo

Would that cause the clutch not to work when the bike isnt running and in gear and still wont roll?

edit: while it's not moving, will it kill the engine if the clutch is still held in and it gets put into gear?

I went to look at it today and it won't even roll forward in gear with the clutch in. (the wheel drags) Not sure if the kickstand can do that with the engine off

Yes. It's designed to prevent you from riding away with the kickstand down. The OP can unplug the switch and jump the two terminals to confirm that it is indeed the switch killing the engine.

Now that I think about it, if the kickstand is down, the engine will stop as soon as you put it in gear. I have a Triumph and that's what they do. Other bikes will allow you to put the bike in gear with the kickstand down, but will die as soon as you begin releasing the clutch.

that's what my 250 did. you can keep the kickstand down and put it in gear but as soon as you release the clutch the engine stops.

Eh, engine off, clutch in, in gear, won't roll? That's normal for a lot of bikes, actually, to have the rear wheel drag in that situation. Well, some drag not immobile.

The only accurate way to test a clutch is with the bike in gear. Just find the kickstand switch and hook the two wires coming from the harness together. NOT the wires from the switch. That will bypass it and I'm 99% certain fix the "put it in gear immediately dies" issue. If it doesn't, then the clutch cable either needs adjusted or it needs a new clutch as the plates are probably stuck together.

Kind of wish you were closer to me, I'd help troubleshoot the bike. I love Triumphs, even if it was a clutch issue, I'd still consider picking this guy up.

My r1 is the same. If my kickstand is down..The bike won't start or it kills the engine. Good safety feature to have though!!

I know this sounds overly simple, but the first thing that I would do is to change the oil to a motorcycle specific oil or Rotella. Then start the bike & let it completely warm up. Now excercise the clutch by pulling in the clutch lever & holding it in while the engine is running, then release it. Repeat this several times without trying to put the bike in gear. After you have excercised the clutch several times, try shifting into first gear. Does it still die?

Sounds like you might have a "tight" clutch. Does the bike usually make a loud clunk & move forward a little bit when you first try to ride it after a cold start?

If you get in the habit of letting it warm up & excercise the clutch a few times before you try to put it in gear, you won't have this problem any longer.

NO! A bad kick-stand switch would not cause what you are describing.

Stupid feature to begin with, especially if it shorts out during a turn. If you can't remember to put your kick-stand up properly, you shouldn't be riding in the first place.

I know this sounds weird, but if his tires are flat/really low on air, he will have a much harder time rolling the bike as well.

tires aren't what is keeping the bike from rolling. they're properly inflated

Then you either have a bad kickstand sensor switch, a mis-adjusted clutch cable or a bad clutch. All easy fixes, if you are interested in his bike.
