| Endorsed Joined: Aug 2012 From: The Coast | Awesome find! And it wasn't turned into a cafe turd. Outstanding. Love the little 400F, kinda of wish I would have taken mine to the Lemay thing today. There were a handful of CBX's and 750's but no 400 fours. I've even got a spare 75 red tank and side covers I could throw on my 77. Beware, the Achilles' heel of that bike is the cam chain tensioner. It's possible that's what is causing that knock at idle. Hopefully the tensioner bolt isn't broken off in the block (right above the oil filter) The good news is you can buy brand new parts to fix it, just set you back 200 bucks and a top end tear down. You can also switch over to electronic ignition if the previous owner hasn't already done so. Easy to install, no longer mess with point gaps. I've been running the Dynatek in mine for months with no issues. Just beware that the charging system on the 400F can't take many add ons. I had to bump back down to a 35W headlamp because it was killing my battery. And if you want another 400, try tracking down the other CB400F. A '89 or '90 CB-1. Gear driven cams, redline at 13.5. Awesome little screamer that you can run through the gears without having the popo come after you. |
