| Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2005 From: Portland, OR I Ride: Piano Bike | California Ride August 5th through the 9th! I have done this just about every year excluding the last two (work / life got in the way). The gist of it is.... 4-5 days of riding in the northern california roads (some of the best roads you could encounter). Prepare to have a great time, ride with characters, meet new people, see places you probably have never seen before, learn to lane-split, and enjoy an adventure of a lifetime! Every year has been a freakin' riot. If you are interested, post up! Our first night generally is in Eureka, sometimes Weaverville. Generally, every morning we all get up, discuss the route we want to take, and enjoy the adventure. All I ask is: be ready to have fun, have your bike in good condition (new tires), and have a moderate skill set (it is a long distance). I have found while the riding is fantastic, nothing matches the socialization aspect. This is happening July 22 through July 26th!! (weds through sun) Post up, and we'll get together and discuss the details! Last edited by Zygoat; 07-08-2009 at 06:19 PM.. Reason: Date |

I saw a lot of great roads that I'd like to try next time though. Talked with a couple guys from Vancouver, B.C. that had been riding down to Laguna for a lot of years and they said most of the roads through the mountains from 101 to I-5 and back are a blast! Next time for me though. |

| Training Wheels Joined: May 2007 From: Vancouver, WA I Ride: 2003 sv1000 | Just got back from a 1700 mile trip that took us through Reno, down to San Fransisco, then back up 101 to hwy 1 then back to 101. great ride, the stretch from the northern end of hwy1 when it leaves the ocean side is some of the best roads i have ever ridden on. each turn is banked just a little bit and the road is in great condition. wish I could go, but my next trip will be to Whistler BC at the end of summer. enjoy and have fun. |

I'd like to suggest the last week in July (27th-31st) or some mixture of that week and the weekend. Last edited by Mundefined; 07-04-2009 at 12:13 PM.. |

| Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2005 From: Portland, OR I Ride: Piano Bike | Ok, so it looks like the dates of July 22-26th will work best. Fast Eddie, we would be going in motels. Also, I should add, the first couple of days we generally don't get too far south, so those who are unable to meet weds or Thursday could probably bomb down I-5 and 101 and meet us within a few hours. | Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2005 From: Portland, OR I Ride: Piano Bike | AZ 636... you and me both man! I will be riding an R6 on this one. The route is generally so twisty you don't spend a lot of time just sitting. ![]() The last couple of years I have done it... I spent less than $400 for the 5 days. We are pretty economical, but don't stay in roach motels... Diana would kill me. ![]() Generally, hotels are anywhere from $25-$35 / person if you share a room w/ three others. I spent about $25 for gas per day last time on a liter bike. Food is totally up to you what you spend, but it was about $30 a day for me or so, not including beer ![]() Also, I will be at the Ava Tuesday night coffee so if anyone wants to chat about it... | Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2005 From: Portland, OR I Ride: Piano Bike | The date has been changed to July 22nd-26th. There were some conflicts in schedules and this seems to work the best for the majority that will be going. Mundefined, I understand this doesn't work for you and I am REALLY sorry to change the date on you... I look forward to riding with you in the near future. If by some miracle you will be able to make that time frame, we would be delighted to have you! On the good news side, Green-Goblin will be joining us and there is a good possibility that we will have a sag wagon as well! ![]() |
