Wikipedia:

A chicane is an artificial feature creating extra turns in a roadway, used in motor racing and on city streets to slow cars. On modern raceways, chicanes are usually located after long straightaways, making them a prime location for overtaking.
Some tracks, such as Portland International Raceway, feature optional chicanes. Faster cars will race with the chicane, but slower cars (such as amateur club racers) may avoid the chicane since the cars are not capable of developing excessive speed in the lengthened straightaway.

the chicane will be tricky because its concrete 1st gear tight flat corner on 2, can anyone say drifting

If I remember they were put in for the indy cars back in the late 80's. Those cars were going over 215mph on the strait. Accidents in turn 1 were bad so it was done to slow them. Funny in the late 90's before engine restrictions with the curves the champ cars were hitting 195mph then slow to 1st gear into (chicane) turn 1. fast laps in 99 were in the low 58 seconds with 12 turns. The champ cars also hit 165-170 on the back strait then 110-120 apexing turn 10(turn 7 to us). I wish they would come back.

no no no. i know WHY the raceway actually physically placed the chicane in the track. and now i know what people mean they say chicane.

my question, more rhetorical than anything, was why in the world would PSSR want to include the chicane in a track day? it seems silly to me.

sorry for the confusion, lol

I believe they run it once a year just to do something different and its only half the day. I'm not a big fan either.

Doesn't it add a much needed left turn? I'd think sportbikers would want even more corners in a track. If I had to choose between a 180 mph straightaway and a series of curves, I'd pick the curves every time.

I think it’s just the fact that it’s slippery… if it wasn’t why wouldn’t you want more turns. I’m excited because now I might actually be able to gain some ground on those big bikes.

Thanks!

Well this one was much easier to give away… I narrowed my list down to 2 people and since my original go to guy (Oldman) declined it’s going to go to the peoples favorite last time around (and I believe a track virgin)…..

Brady…. You just got yourself a track day…. Make sure you can get the day off and have the gear. Congrats and have a good time!!

PS... contact Del with your info and he'll get it to the right people.

Brady is the perfect choice Grant.

If I had won, I was going to give my win away (for $$$ though) as well. I'm far more focused on making it out to 2Fast at ORP that weekend right before PSSR and I highly doubt I'll be able to survive 3 track days in a row. It'll probably be hard enough just working.

I still have plans to get another day of PIR in before the end of the season, so if I like 2Fast that weekend, I'll probably do their PIR track day later that week.

Not if it's just a half hearted attempted to just slow things down. I've never ridden PIR with the fest curves, but I know the busstop at PR is a lame (but needed) attempt to slow bikes down. It kills the flow. I see the fest curves as being even worse, turn 1 at PIR is a blast to tip into being that it's a sweeper and not a hairpin. Those fest curves look like a fucking parking lot. Ya, I'd love PIR to have more corners but I'll take the quality of the turning over the quantity.
