OREGON CITY -- A motorcyclist hit by a deer was killed in the crash east of Oregon City Saturday.

Clackamas County Sheriffs and firefighters were called to South Chalet Drive at Fischers Mill just after 11:30 a.m.

Two bicyclists who saw the crash said the deer jumped out into the road and hit the motorcycle, sending it into a stand of mailboxes. Kevin Shawn Kenville, 42, of Portland died at the scene.

The bicyclists said the motorcycle nearly hit them. No one else was hurt.

Deputies said he was visiting with his mother, who lives nearby.

The deer was also killed in the collision.
Please be careful out there. Too many as it is.
RIP

I hit a deer around Gig Harbor back in 97 on a new VFR, 770 miles on it. I saw it come out and all I could do was keep the bike straight, coming out of a corner, and hang on. Killed the deer, ruptured my radiator and had to ride home on the back of my buddies bike to get my truck. Some lady that lived there came out yelling at us about going too fast. Had another guy, who was building his house, saw it and said we were ok. Had a couple bikes doing about 100+ through there that past weekend. We were doing 50 in a 35. She never asked how I was.

So deer can be unexpected and scary. I hope most don't have to deal with deer this way. Be careful, RIP.

Sad story RIP rider and yup it's no fun,I've hit one and ran over another hit by a pickup truck in front of me.
Wish I had a dollar for every close call I've had with deer,I could buy a new bike.

Saw a little plastic thing on a ladys car the other day... looked kinda like a horn: maybe as big around as a pencil, about half an inch long.

She said it is a "deer whistle"... guess it makes a high pitched noise that they dont like and when they hear it coming they stay away from it.

Might be worth the extra 3-4 oz on the bike to put one under the front cowl and keep bambi away.

I've seen a vehicle that hit a deer with one of those whistles on it. Sorry, no pics of it.

Best wishes to the riders family that sux big time. That is my single biggest fear when out in the twisty's....coming around a corner to see bambi waiting for me. Gives me cold chill. I try not to ride faster than I can stop or lose control, but what the hell are supposed to do about a deer jumping at you from the side of the road?

1 1/2 months ago I was riding skyline west of corn pass at 12 noon and 2 deer jumped out in front of me going 50mph. No close call tho, lucky I guess. BTW deer and elk will cross the road where the trees and bushes are closest to the shoulder on both sides. Use caution in areas like that.
