PSI Founder and Rider KJ Dies at Hagg Lake
OK My friends, I really hate posting this.

My Friend KJ died Sunday at Hagg lake, he was married and had a 10 year old son. I only rode with KJ a couple times, he was a skilled rider although he had only been at it a year. I wasnt on the ride when he died but after talking to my closest riding partner, best friend and vice president of PSI, Saxon, I have the details of what was witnessed and I am posting here and now as a warning to all my family that ride. First I want to say that KJ was a beautiful human being, a kind loyal friend, and someone that would accept you with open arms and would take you as a friend and make you feel accepted quickly.

This is what I pieced together

Going on the route counter clockwise (dam first) heading to campsite C the group stopped for a bite to eat, continuing on the journey, as everyone knows, the roads at Hagg are mainly long sweepers, and they can be rode fairly hard for the more experienced riders. Saxon was leading and KJ got really close to his tail, Saxon waved him on and KJ blasted past him, on the next curve Saxon says he say the bike spin in the air and land in a tree, KJ 15 feet from the guard rail, laying on the ground, rushing to his side Saxon attempted to revive him, yelling at him to give any sign of life, the other riders came up and came over to help out, Austin from Pureriderz from what i understand was holding KJ's head in his hands, blood came out of his mouth, and other than some nervous system twitching there was no sign of life, and my friend KJ, Husband, Father, Friend is gone, died in Saxon, and Austins arms, he had sustained a broken neck.

What we do is FUCKING dangerous guys, too many riders have died this year, 3 weeks ago in one weekend 5 people died, almost everyone I have met this year know someone that died, NOT went down and is ok, DIED.

Be fucking careful out there guys, a windy road doesn't mean its engineered to drag a leg on, if you NEED to get your feed for speed and drag knees, know the fucking road first. Im tired of writing these threads man. Too many people have gone down.

Incidentally on the same corner another guy did almost the same thing, but he low sided, yea he didnt die, he gotta broken collar bone instead.

Rubber Side down boys, and ride safe

Im going to ride out to the crash site today and try to make some kind of sence of what happened, really guys we lost a good one on 8-17-09

This is a sobering statement, thank you for posting. I have only been riding for 18 months or so but feel that I have a good understanding and control of my bike. I know my limits and remind myself constantly to ride my own ride, but sometimes I forget how inexperienced I really am, and even people with a lifetime of experience doing everything right, die. It's important not to become complacent.

Hopefully the loss of KJ will save another life or two by reminding people how easy it is to lose your life.

RIP

Motorcycling; this is something I will never give up, I will NEVER stop riding, until I am physically unable to ride I will always get back on my bike. I love my motorcycle, it doesnt talk back to me, it does what I tell it to do, if I could fuck it I would have no need for a relationship or a woman. I will die on my motorcycle, and if they follow my will I will be buried with it. I dont know how 359 lbs of plastic and steel can make me feel so good, so complete, so whole, often times the only moments of clarity I experience are on my motorcycle I can let all my problems go, I am the boss, I am in control, I am zen with my machine, I tell it to do something and it responds to me, for the good the better or the worse. I will ride until my dying breath, regardless if its on a ride, or my body gets riddled with cancer and they have to place me on my bike. This is something i will always do, if I die on a ride I'm dying doing something I love doing, and hopefully with my friends around me. I hope this day doesnt come for atleast 35 years, but that day will come.

Be careful, respect the road, know the road, the road is as much your obsticle, as it is the forum for which you opporate your machine, the track is predictable, the track is safe, the street is a never ending ever changing chaotic place. KNOW the road, KNOW the corners Know where you are putting the most precious thing you have (yourself) when you are hitting corners. if you can drag a knee great, but know whats coming, if you can wheelie, great, KNOW WHATS COMING Stunters and Track guys, be in a controlled environment when gettin bad ass. Dont lose your life

I was on that ride and was there when he passed. Morgan from PureRiderz who had never met him until 2 hours earlier held his head and was checking his vitals as he passed in her arms. Austin from Pureriderz was by his side as were 2 good samaritans who stopped to assist us with 3 bikes down. Only 2 were injured, one being KJ who from what I had seen was a really fun and great guy.

Please everyone ride safe out there. You don't want that to be you.

RIP KJ

This is quite true. A year is nothing. You might have skills and quick reactions, but it takes decades to recognize all the potential hazards you will encounter on the street, and you'll still add to your personal catalogue with each ride. Always leave a little something on that credit card for the unexpected.

Good advice. It can be hard NOT to slow down riding in a group. You don't want to lose face, i know the feeling. I took the WED night Portland ride and this is a ride for people familiar with the roads and the knarly twisities (McNamie/ Logie Trail). I was the slowest dog out there and was severely holding up the sweeper (Mark? on the supeermoto...sorry Mark...hahah!!). I felt bad for him, but was not and am still not familiar or comfortable yet with the pace on those roads (that's gonna take awhile..and those fuckers like to go down hill on that hell too...4kers!! ), so i slowed way down.

It is NOT worth your life just to keep up, I almost killed myself in the past and it was a wakeup call. Just do your own pace, and live another day.

Sorry to hear about your friend and that could have just as easily been me. I get in the competitive mode every once in awhile and unchecked can easily get you into trouble.

There have been alot of crashes this year. Best thing to do is ride the scary roads by yourself at your own pace and become intimately familiar with them.

I just can't go fast on an unknown road, i need to have some idea what awaits around the next corner.

Ride safe and keep the rubber side down!!

When you ride in a group, we aren't racing, you arent better or worse of a rider where you are in the pack, sometimes in large groups I like to be in the back for the visual, sometimes I like to lead becasue I like to feel like a sheppard, or a leader, showing my friends the way, if someone wants to pass, Ill wave them on, on your machine you are resposible for you, and by example of how you ride as a leader is going to reflect how the pack rides. If you are slow, that isnt a bad thing, or something to feel inadequete about, like Trans says, a year on a bike is nothing, you can know all the moves, but without the expereance you have to know where you are at, where your head is, not to get so swept up in the ride that you lose your head, when we go as a pack we go as a team it is not a competition. A kid wadded up his bike and broke his leg a few weeks ago on a ride I lead becasue he had been riding a month and was trying to keep up with guys that had been riding a long time. Dont feel you gotta be a Cabrone on your machine, just be you, time and miles will make you a good rider, twisting a wrist doesnt impress me, riding a wheelie at 110 doesnt impress me, knowing the road, taking corners as best you can take them, miles under your belt, turning under 1:19 at PIR thats what impresses me.

RIP brother and condolences to the family.

This has been at the least a very sobering year seeing some of the statistics getting closer to home, friends and family. And at a time I'm feeling sharper and more confident in my own skills, I have been finding myself slowing down and advocating more for safer speeds, and looking at the track for going nuts. I want to see myself and the people I ride with go home safely, and have good memories to talk about.

i'm sorry i didn't get to meet him, its been a crazy year of people getting caught up in really dumb idea's, really strikes home when something happens to someone you know like this. not only are cage operators trying to run into us, but an easy misinterpretation or 10mph over judgment of speed can bring a terrible end to your ride. be careful out there everyone.

RIP good sir.

Expensive? So very true (as I have recently learned). But I would rather pay THAT price to do what I love so much, and not the ultimate price.

It was right after Nelson Rd. Turn six I think.
