I think part of that route is gravel but I could be wrong.

I'll go check it out tomorrow in the cage since its right down the street.

It does turn to gravel. Also the last few miles before it turns to gravel there are some deep sink holes. But you do get a good view of the mountain.

So it's a good motard road??? How many miles of it is paved?

Don't remember exactly but think it was around 15 miles.

Even the pavement is marginal (Lolo pass road, west slope). Good road for a dual sport or a motard with good rubber (not shagged take-offs). Great views of Mt Hood. If I recall, the gravel section is about 5-7 miles long, then a lot of single lane (paved) on the east side of Lolo Pass.

So I talked to the fiance last night and he confirmed that we took most of this route in his jeep.

I agree with Dickweed, its gonna be ok for a dual or a motard but I still wouldn't go tearing through the curvy sections. There's alot of us local folks who go up there and the road can get very narrow and we've had many instances of coming around a corner and finding another car right in our face.

But it is a very pretty area. Here's some pics from our day we spent out there.

If anyone is up this way and wants to meet up, feel free to PM me.

The road from the Hood River side is in good condition, but it is single lane. Fun ride, though it is out and back due to the gravel.

Paved from Zigzag to top of lolp pass, but that's as far as we went. Road was soso. not really all that much "fun factor", but nice views and okay to do once...

I just rode the entirety of this section last Sunday on a somewhat top-heavy sport touring bike. Yes, around 8 miles of the stretch past the Lost Lake campground area are gravel. From the top of the pass the pavement ends and the roads winds around several ridges close to Hood. Beautiful scenery.

It's easily doable with some cautious riding in some of the deeper gravel sections. Not the best place to be stranded, but there is minor traffic over the pass.
