If you ever on the SE side, I go to the 24hr Fitness at SE Mcloughlin Blvd & Holgate. I'm in there about 3-4 time a week, and taking advantage of a Master Trainer for body building. Can't believe how much better I feel!!!

I workout at the pearl 24 hour regular (its the only option in the area). I dont do workout partners because they typically get hurt trying to keep up.... but I am willing to help you or anyone get online with a reasonable and maintainable program.

That could be good, Im thinking the 24hr on TV and 240th would be good, I would say start around 5:30 or 6 now that riding season is coming to an end, Ill probably start seriously in Oct. Im also thinking after rides, go work out and then hit the sauna and hot tub

Hey I go the one off of Tanasbourne, the good thing is they are going to be shutting it down soon and move everyones memberships over to the new one they are building which is going to be twice the size and more shiz. I normally hit the gym around 8:30 to 9 pm

Too bad you're on that side of town. I'm in the gym 4 times a week (Clackamas 24hr), have developed a pretty good routine which includes stretches, weights, and cardio and am always up for a partner since it's easier to keep it going that way. TimothyElkins on the board meets me down there once or twice a week.

Good luck, Rob! I've gotten in fantastic shape over the last 5 months with improved diet & consistent excercise. I have defineable abs now and no belly... who'd have thought

Man stretching is the only thing I forget to do, I really need to get it down though. I am also in the gym 5+ days a week. The days can kinda of be random sometimes but normally Monday through Friday depends on other things and how F*ed up I am from the prev workout.

PS: the gym I hit does not have a Hottub but the one we are moving to this spring should (Going from Active to a SuperSport) :( Does not mean we cant hop a gate or something and sit is someone elses muahaha

Stretching is key and the very first thing I do. As soon as I get in I head to the mat and spend about 15 minutes there. I throw in pushups and planks to help my core. Definitely helps avoid soreness from weight training.

Xtend helps avoid soreness from weight training No I hear you I do a cardio warmup but thats about it. Thinking of taking up Yoga or something, I just feel so whats the word "ill use lame" stretching in front of people. I think I will start to do my stretches at home before I go in though, I have some Yoga vid's.

Grats man working out is great, diet alone will help a huge amount. One of the UPS guys that delivers to my work brought up the sweets issue its damn tough but cutting out as much processed sugar helps a great deal. Besides diet just try to be active.

I was going to go around and find this out for myself, but since it came up....

Having just moved to the area, I'm looking for a gym...any recommendations? I see there are members here from at least 5 different ones.

A more appropriate question might be which ones should I avoid?

I live just west of Hillsboro. Er....around the Tanasbourne area? Or at least have quick access to it.

Still trying to figure it out exactly....

I suggest the 24 hour fitness on Tanasbourne, specially since they will be closing it down soon and moving all of our memberships to the new one they are building which will be just around the corner. It will also be a super sport. So you have the possibility of getting the Active facility rate which is cheaper and when they move things over you get the cheaper price and better gym. ( I would call to double check the price carry over, since I wonder if I will get all the same benefits without a price change)

I hope this makes sense trying to get out the door, if there are any question I can answer just PM me.

have you signed up at a gym yet? My bro-in-law works at the 24 on tv hwy and could probably get you a good deal. You may also want to check out bally's. It's more of an "average joes" gym, that's where I'm at 4+ days a week

my schedule is pretty open, so let me know. can even hit a weekend if you want, but dont come hungover.

anyone else is more than welcome. I typically setup a stretch - lift - sweat type routine using simple motions, circuit training, and as much outdoor cardio as possible. I frown on running for most (because most are so out of shape they tear themselves up), and stay to biking, walking, maybe some olyptical.

I turn 40 next year, and I need to start in my workout schedule again. I have all the gear at home, I just need my physical problems to quit, so I can get back to my schedule. I also need to get more aggressive about eating healthy food. I hate to run, but I love the bicycles.

Sorry Rob, I'm a home workout person now... did the gym thing for 10-15 years, but just cant justify the cash any more.

( do 40-50 pullups:alt grip every set, 80-100 hindu/widegrip/tricep pushups, 50-75 hanging leg raises, 100-150 lunges/sissy squats/hindu squats and you'll be in pretty good shape in no time)

...takes maybe 10-15 min in the morning, couple sets - then 10-15 in the evening, couple more sets and you're done for the day.

Save the 20-40 bucks a month for tires and trackdays.

3 things primarily raise triglycerides
  1. Alcohol
  2. Cafeine
  3. Sugar

Sugar = Bread, Pasta, Rice, Potatoes, Pies, Cakes, Candy, Cookies, Crackers, Soda Pop...

Eliminating anything made from flour and sweets from your diet and adding the right exercise and your blood chemistries will normalize fairly quickly. Make sure you stay in an aerobic range with your cardio....very important. Get a heart rate monitor or use a machine that keeps track of your heart-rate.

Good luck with your workout program. Sounds like you're on the right track.
