Hello everyone, Posted this in a bike specific forum as well but not getting any response. I have a EX500 (Ninja) and I had some issues with the bracket which connected the exhaust with the block. After fixing that I noticed a kind of "clicking" noise when the engines running. I just got the bike and its an 06 with 1400 miles on it. So I am not sure what the issue could be. Has oil in it, no performance issues just the clicking. Should I take it to mechanic even though its barely broken in? Thanks for your help, Tim |

I have talked to tons of people they all told me that these bikes are known for a clicking noise from the motor. my bike now has just over 4000 miles on it and the noise hasnt changed. I cant hear the noise when I am on the throttle. hope this helps. I would take it in and have it checked. |

One thing i would check is, make sure your oil is not overfilled. My friend took his bike to a shop once and they overfilled it which caused it to make a "valve ticking" sound. If you are still worried and would like someone to look at it. Let me know (it will be freeee) Goodluck |

It could also be a sticking lifter, and a myriad of other issues.. Kawi's do run VERY loud in comparison to other brands. If the noise increases with revs then it could very well be a sticking lifter. But at 1400 miles? Not likely.. Also when you check you oil... Make sure that the bike is in its full upright position, not on the side stand. Most people check an add oil according to how much they are showing when parked on the stand.. This is VERY wrong and will result in overfill.. |

My friends F4i ticks at start up but then it goes away after it warms up. The fact that the bike has 1400miles on it just makes it hard to believe anything is really wrong with it. My other thought was what kind of oil are you using? |

If you reused the copper crush washers where the header connects to the head that is likely. Buy some new ones and see if that helps. Edit: Also, if that's the case, a minor exhaust leak is not a big deal. Last edited by tarik; 09-18-2009 at 01:28 PM.. |
