id say they should think about their riding ideas and make sure they have the mental capability to be riding those big cruisers. what sportbike club rides 25 riders in one pack? ive always known to split up to smaller groups for this exact reason. this is pretty sucky though, hope everyone is ok and this doesnt wreak havoc on our insurance.

25, 100 bikes who cares. proper riding/driving would have avoided this.

I have a few acquaintances in that club, all are very good riders, most of those guys were born in the saddle and have ridden there whole lives.

I will hold my judgment until I get the whole story.

For now, I will pray for those hurt.

1% or not, I will pray just like I would if they were a group of sport bikers.

I have a friend in the Camas,WA chapter and have ridden with some Portland members, theses guys know how to ride,my friend is even an MSF certified instructor here in WA.
Something is fishy here, roadrage maybe,I don't know but I'd bet there is more to the story than just an accident.
Most of the bikes ridden on club events are not choppers although most of the guys probably own one, they usually have several bikes to chose from.
They do ride fast,we're not talking about a HOG chapter here but the leaders are guys riding since the '60's or '70's not some wet behind the ears punks.
Whether you love or hate 1% clubs there is no denying that these guys are experienced riders that know how to ride in formation.

apparently not. 2 bikes piling it up maybe. the fact that approx. 26 bikes were involved and noone in the group seen the potential danger of rideing so close they ran into eachother and other cars ( thus suggesting a lack of space coupled with panicing) show these guys were either drunk high or need to hang it up.

This come from 1 of the RCW guys.

Ya I got about 3 calls/texts and from my parents asking me if I was ok. I tell ya, everytime there is an accident with a motorcycle my parents are always the first to call. I guess it's nice but when I first got my bike they'd call me like every 30 min to see if I was ok

Get better soon riders!

I was watch KATU news on the web, they have a video where they were interviewing a witness to the crash and he said the SUV cut in front of them and for no reason hit the brakes with another SUV in the other lane then hit there brakes.

He said that traffic was lite and he saw no reason for them to have done what they did.

It sounds more and more like road rage to me.

Link....

Go to the bottom of the page to the video of Terry Scott.

Either the car did something wrong.. or the bikes.
From that interview with Terry, sounds like it was the car... seems quite pointless and DUMB... what would make somebody think its a good idea to brake in front of 30 bikes and have them sit on the back of your car?
But if he did just kind of shoot over there in front of them, they possibly didnt have enough time to gain distance from the car before the car braked...

either way... really dumb and is causing a lot of heart ache for WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE for no legitimate reason.

I wonder if the car driver got off with nothing? Probably.

People enjoy brake checking other people. It doesn't make sense but most people don't. It's silly.
I doubt the driver of the SUV even stopped.

Not.....I've ridden with them ,have you?
There is more to this story than just the bikers screwing up,of that I'm sure.
Yes they ride tight and fast and yes there is inherent risk involved doing so but that is how all MC clubs ride and this just doesn't happen without some other factor like some idiot in a car causing a problem.
They know the risk of riding like a squadron of fighter pilots, they each have a wingman just like a military group and that is the way it is.
In fact former WWII pilots were a big part of the origin of the outlaw MC clubs in this country, living with danger and on the edge is part of the lifestyle,it's in their blood going back to the early days when GIs returned from war and formed the clubs to find the same kind of camaraderie they had with their brothers in arms during the war.

Its interesting to go through this whole list and look at the bike the user rides and see what they comment. Different bikes = different comment.

Another note on the whole Vets coming home and buying motorcycles.
(Don't get me wrong i have respect) but crashes go way up do to these guys coming home with $$$$ in thier pockets, going down to the motorcycle showroom, and buying the fastest sweet looking bike they can. Cool but it leads to them hurting themselves very quickly. Also the salesman wont back out and try to get the guy a smaller bike he has to make $$$.

^^ kinda seems like this place should be renamed... sportbikesonly... feeling less and less inclusive these days.

I am of the mind there are no accidents, every situation could have been prevented, these guys ride fast and tight, but they do it often and are good riders. seems like someone has a jones for bikers and decided to prove a point... thats conjecture at this point.

Not.

At least from the little clip that I saw on TV with them riding 2-abreast and maybe 1/2 second apart front-to-back, I'd refuse to ride in a group like that. The few PNW events that I've been at, we've sure not done that.

Do they have the right do ride like that? I dunno, I'm not a lawyer, but by choosing to ride like that, there are additional risks they incur. IMHO, there's absolutely no reason why riders 10+ motorcycles behind the crash should have been involved with it. Maybe that's just me though.

Being right (I.E. having the "right of way") does me no good if I am dead or in the hospital.

My prayers go out to all who were involved and/or impacted by this horrible event, and I hope that lessons learned will make for a better world.

Dont mind what everyone has to say; some like to talk.
I dont think that I ride "croch rocket" but it sure is not cruiser. This forum is for everyone but if HD riders have their own club than so be it.

PNW riders is not a club, even social riding clubs are not MCs,for instance HOG the Harleys Owners Group is not an MC it's an RC and there's a big difference.

i'm as big a HD douche basher as many of you guys here, but this is a situation that all of us in a metropolitan area’s could easily get caught up in a bad way too, ya maybe they could have put some brake upgrades on the list and better riding gear….. but really guys (an gals) their is a limit to Bashing people when they are down eh...

Heal up Brother speeders, summer won't wait for anyone.

soooo, a bunch of fellow riders are down and a bunch of you are just critiqueing the situation and placing blame on the riders and saying it could have been avoided if they were safer riders... wow, thats fucked! who cares who's fault it is, the point is they are hurt and they need our support and prayers not some snooty comment about how they could have avoided it by riding differently. I love this site but sometimes you guys amaze me..

My prayers go out to ALL involved, at fault or not alot of people are and will be affected by this accident.

just my opinion, i didnt read every single persons post and im no authority on the subject i just think it wouldnt hurt for some to just see the bigger picture..

Seems like nobody wants to really say how poorly these guys ride. They put themselves and everyone around them at risk because they want to look tough and be so bad ass. It is sad to see anyone hurt but they are an accident waiting to happen anytime they ride. I ride a Harley so it isn't a case of HD bashing.

Poor riding habits cause injuries and that is what brother speed it about. Doesn't matter what skill level they are and from what I have seen in their riding their skill level is not particularly great. I have ridden with quite a few of the people from this board and would put the board members skill levels quite a bit above those of brother speed members.

I hope the riders all survive their injuries but beyond that... they sewed what they reaped.

Good point, yet not very poignant.

Is it acceptable to remain silent;

1-If a rider suggests it is OK to wheelie though a school zone?

2-How about riding with his tires worn to the cords?

3-How about kicking all the moving car doors for fun?

I would suggest the answer should be a loud NO! It is not OK to do those things and we owe it to each other (here) to say something. Don't we?

That said if anyone rides differently or outside the realm of our beliefs of safety (and written here) we have, not only the right to critique it but the responsibility to our little community (PNWriders) to discuss it.

Many of the methods, HD riders use, fall short of safety minimums.
All to often when the points like style, method, dress, training, and HD are lumped all hell breaks loose.

These held back or forced down feelings morph into an attitude which arrives when these kinds of things occur.

I agree, it is sad and troubling that the cause was or could have been road rage. Who began the attitude on the road? Was the SUV driver trying to get even? Even for what?

The real cause could be anything, so why can't these guys discuss it, vent their feelings and attitudes?

Try to lighten up on those who have the strong feelings, they have a right to them.

I have strong feelings about Brother Speed. They might be great people today, but just as any club the past is dragged along with it.

All that said,,,,, side by side riding is just stupid. It causes things like this to be much worse. Brain buckets,,,,,LOL!

I realize your point and it is a good one, no im not saying its not ok to discuss, more that have all your facts straight before you make a judgement thats all.
i wasnt trying to specify any person or comment, sorry if i came off that way, i just think this is something that couldve happened to any of us, especially on some of the bigger group rides ive been on with you guys..

Rest assured (not that you aren't) I never assumed you were attacking us all or in fact any single person, rather, I had held back for so long it all kind of flew out.
An emotional subject when motorbike riders get hurt.

Wish you could make bike night VanHooter, tonight, I am leaving for a 7ish show, at Mantra.

Come on up! A fantastic bunch of people, some of the best i have ever been associated with, yes it's true I lower the quality, but they are so good it really doesn't show. In fact........You may not even notice!

This is pretty sad. There are so many hypocrites here.

If this post was about just ONE sportbike rider that crashed into a car, it's immediately the car's fault, and if anyone even hints at maybe the bike was going too fast (because, *gasp*, sportbike riders do sometimes ride unsafely) he's completely ostracized for (a) "bullshit, it was the car's fault" and (b) "this post is not the place to put blame. best wishes to the rider and their family"

Here, we have a pretty nasty crash involving MANY bikers, leaving some in critical condition, and everyone's being a douche bag saying it's their fault, and how it could have been easily avoided if they were riding properly, with no care for their lives/families. Yeah! Serves them right.

Makes sense angry, but it is what it is, and we'll probably never know what the circumstances were, you know?

Steve.

I found this particularly intriguing.

I was unfortunately caught in this melee friday afternoon as I was heading down to do some chores for my mom. I would think with that many riders occupying the left lane that someone got pissed off and after finally getting around them they very well could have done a little brake checking.

Washington State can be bad for slower traffic occupying the left lane but Oregon is ten times worse. I don't know how many times I have driven down and have gone over to the far right lane to pass the slower moving traffic because someone is camping in the left lane.
