Crash involving several motorcycles
Crash, possibly involving multiple motorcycles, slows I-5 near Wilsonville
by Rick Bella, The Oregonian
Friday September 18, 2009, 3:11 PM

WILSONVILLE -- Traffic on Interstate 5 north has been delayed while emergency crews respond to a crash at milepost 282, south of Wilsonville.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved several motorcycles, near the Baldock Rest Area.

No information is yet available on the number or extent of injuries, Oregon State Police report.

The crash blocked the left lane and shoulder of northbound I-5, and transportation officials warned of delays. ........Doesn't sound good

Lucky for them they crashed in Oregon. If it had been in Idaho, the casualties would have been far worse (without their helmets).

Then again, with the "helmets" that they are likely wearing here (toy pudding bowls), it probably wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference.

There is only one way to fuck up on a one way road with no intersections. Not riding smart. Hopefully everyone is ok and they learn something from this.

I don't want to sound judgmental....but my first guess would be Harleys....
So if they ran into the back of the car.....that means they either did not have enough distance between them and the car or their reaction time was not fast enough which then should tell them......"hey i should give more room"

If all else fails........"LOOK AHEAD"

I agree...and thats the way insurance companies go too, the person hitting the back of the car is usually at fault for not leaving enough room.

At the same time, the full story is not presented..If it was a road rage situation or something where the driver just locked up his breaks for no reason at all..then the driver would be at fault.

I was on the North bound 5 in the center lane and Im guessing 30 Harleys or more went by me in the fast lane and then about a few miles down the freeway traffic came to a stop and about 15 cars or so up I could see something was going on . When I went by I could see 15 to 20 bikes im guessing scattered all over the freeway made me sick to my stomach, there were already people on there cell phones calling and I was in a armored truck so I couldnt really pull over if I wanted to. Very sad : ( my prayers go out to all involved .

Road Rage in Oregon?? NEVER! *sarcasm*

But yes if it was road rage, that would be sad. I hope we are able to get a few more details as it progresses and hope that they will return to good health.

Either way...who's ever fault is was, bikes are replaceable, people are not. Hoping everyone involved gets the medical attention they need, get healed, and get back on the bikes...

They generally hold the spaghetti feed on 92nd between Powell & Division, but it is now referred to as the Black & Gold, don't know how that fits in (colors?).

I sure hope for the drivers sake, it was a legitimate accident and not aggression.

Best wishes for the riders involved.

26 brother speed motorcycle crash
Excerpt from CLACKAMAS COUNTY NEWS http://www.oregonlive.com/clackamasc...ing_multi.html

"WILSONVILLE -- Traffic on Interstate 5 north remains backed up for miles after crash a involving about 26 motorcycles from the Brother Speed outlaw motorcycle club.

The crash occured about 2:45 p.m. at milepost 282 south of Wilsonville. All northbound lanes were closed for about an hour. All lanes reopened shortly before 6 p.m., but officials traffic remained backed up or congested in both north and south lanes.

"When we arrived on scene, it was ordered mayhem," said Lt. Mike Towner of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. "There were ... two dozen motorcycles scattered across the freeway."

Two bikers with critical injuries were flown by LifeFlight helicopter ambulances to Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center and OHSU Hospital in Portland. Seven other crash victims with less serious injuries were taken by ambulance.

Why Brother Speed was on the road and where they were going was not known.

Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman, said 26 motorcycles were traveling north in the left lane, following a car, when traffic ahead began slowing. The car and the bikers all tried to slow down, but collided, piling up on the road. A vehicle in the middle northbound lane was reportedly struck by one of the motorcycles, Hastings said.

State troopers rushed to the crash scene, along with crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, American Medical Response and fire departments from Canby, Aurora and St. Paul.

Karen Eubanks, TVF&R spokeswoman, said seven crash victims were treated for shoulder and hip injuries and broken bones. Two other patients were treated but refused to go to a hospital.

Police estimate membership of the Brother Speed Motorcycle Club at more than 100 in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Utah. The club, founded in 1969, is one of six in Oregon identified by the state Department of Justice as an outlaw biker gang.

Members of the club wear black and gold colors that depict a grinning, winged skull wearing a helmet and motorcycle goggles. The bulk of the club's Oregon membership meet at clubhouses in Portland and Hillsboro, according to law enforcement sources.

"BROTHER SPEED M/C is a club that is serious about brotherhood, respect, riding fast and building choppers," the club writes on its Oregon Web site. "We build the most bad ass choppers around."

Just drove by. There are skid marks in the middle and left lanes for about three quarters of a block. No matter what happened or who was at fault, whether they were Harley's or not, these are still human lives. I hope everyone survives.
