I Ride: 2005 Kawi ZX-6R 636
My bike's not fixed, but I'm riding tomorrow since I'm seeing double. (pics)
Well, I've been having a bi*** of a time with my 636. My surging/stalling problems didn't show up at all during my two days at ORP.

But the following Saturday, I went to ride Clay's Hwy 53 ride and it was one of those days that I shouldn't have even got out of bed. I was actually chillin out at the back of the pack; and being quite cautious when a section of sand (yes, SAND) was all over the tight downhill 15mph right hander. My front wheel slid out from under me despite my every effort to ease through there. a hit to my elbow, bent my slider, a little plastic rash and a broken Brake pedal & right front set were the results.

But I pushed on that day, trying to make the best of it. We took apiary which was a kick, but a few miles from Hwy 30, the bucking/hesitation and flat out stalling of the bike resurfaced. I had to wait for "something" to cool down to even make it to the gas station where the rest of the group was waiting. (Clay, you're pretty amazing for the extent to which you stayed with me and helped me when the bike was showing me no love. You have much class and I respect you a lot.)

I let the bike cool down a while and took it straight to EDR. Turns out I let to cool TOO much since the 30 miles to EDR weren't enough to have the bike running like sh** when I arrived. I talked to them and decided to ride the bike some more and see if I could time things to where it was running horrible when I circled back to them. I ran out to the Twilliger curves and by the time I got back downtown, I was able to ride 2 blocks at a time before the bike bucked and died on me. But they got to see it at its worst. The main theory now is the Ignition switch. First thing last week I ordered parts (for the broken stuff from the sand slideout, and a new ignition switch). They are set to arrive on Friday (a week away still).

So, today, I sold some stuff and free'd up a chunk of cash... I've been looking through craigslist to see what alternatives existed for a new bike, a different bike, etc.

So, today I went out and landed another 2005 Kawi 636 in Plasma Candy Blue. This one has less miles than mine (just under 10k). It's got the two brothers muffler, K&N, and a power commander along with the usual flush mounts and such.

I got a pretty good price on it, and figured that there's going to be some advantages to being able to share parts between the two bikes. Eventually I'll probably sell my first one and keep this one (that has a smidge fewer miles). But now I'll be able to do it at my leasure and have a bike to ride while I fix the issues on the other one.

Yeah, a little crazy, but what the hell. I think I'll come out okay in the end.

And now for the "seeing double" pics:

My RC51 is doing the same thing. It gets up to opperating temp and then it starts missing, bucks, then stalls.
Crazzy let me know if the switch fixes it.

That is a great way to fix the problem.

Spec has the same bike w/ 2bros and he really seems to like it.

I've done SO much testing on the bike there's not too many things left. It seems like we're narrowing it down to Ignition, or maybe ECU.

The good thing is that if the Ignition DOESN'T fix it, I've got a "spare" ECU in the new bike that I can swap over to find out if that solves it w/o having to shell out the cash for a replacement I might not need...

Hard to say... I mean, the problem is that if I keep the new one to ride on the street, and it has all the fun goodies; then I'd want to ride it on the track. I don't wanna pay to mod them both up to the same level. In all liklihood, I'll probably pick the one I wanna keep, and sell off the other come spring time. (so maybe someone else gets a track bike?!?!) I dunno. I still have time to decide what I'll ultimately do.

Yeah, I'm really happy with the 636 overall... Just this recent string of problems and back luck with my first one that has only given me issues this summer...

Regardless, the 1st one's paid for, and I got a really good price on the 2nd one. Maybe next season I sell them both and get a new Honda! LOL.

Thanks all. I took it for a ride today... Up to windy ridge and back from Vancouver. Good times. I think I need to get the suspension dialed in a little better. It felt pretty stiff to me compared to what I'm used to.

And DAMN, that two brothers is LOUD. I think I'm gonna have to convert to ear plugs very soon. (previously with a quiet stock exhaust, I was able to get away with simply having the speakers in my helmet). I like the sound of it, mean as hell... Just have to get used to the increased DB level!!!

Parts will arrive for 636 #1 on Friday, but not sure if i'll be able to jump on fixing it right away. (it's visitation weekend w/ my son, and he comes first).

But it was really nice to be riding again and not frustrated that we had a sunny day and I have a broken bike.
