dogs around here?
hey everyone.. i have a great dane puppy thats about 9 months old. 100 pounds or so.. i was looking to see if anybody in portland had a great dane or a dog bigger than my dog that wanted to set up a play date kind of thing.. my dog isnt real good with other dogs in the way that hes so hyper he just wants to play and every dog hes ever came in contact with is 3 times as small.. so just wanted to let him meet something bigger that had alittle wisdom and could teach him how to play.

i live in SE portland on division just let me know if your interested! text - 9188013719.

My dog weighs 8 pounds. Not sure he'd have much fun with her after two bites.

I live on division as well, but my dog would not be stoked to hang out with a rambunctious dog that large! She's a 75lb greyhound mix that is rescued, and she's just not into being bowled over.

Cool dog though. Have you tried hitting up the dog parks?

his main problem is since all the dogs are smaller he tends to set his front paw on their back to slow them down and that doesnt usually fly with most of them lol.. he grew up with a shi zu so he is used to playing but it took the other dog a bit to get used to the goliath over her head.

I've heard horror stories of people letting their children try to ride the dog and breaking its back. be careful. I heard this when I picked up a Saint Bernard.

They to far away to play though, good luck.

I was at Petsmart a couple of years ago and there were a lot of chihuahuas there. Some lady had her Great Dane in the store, and a chihuahua walked up to it and they started to sniff each other's noses. The small dog went nuts barking at the Dane. The Dane picked up its paw and pinned the small dog to the ground. It then calmly continued to sniff the small dog. Was damned funny. The Dane's owner was freaked out, but the small dog's owner was laughing up a storm, said it was about time that the dog learned it was a tiny shit.

i have an unusually large yellow lab, he weighs in around 110 lbs and hes not fat. Hes 4 years old now his back feat are as long as mine. Hes huge as far as yellow labs go.

Anyways, there is a dog park in beaverton area that has 3 dog areas. One for big dogs, one for small dogs, and one for every kind of dog.

We use to take our dog there and let him go in the big dog area, there wed find great danes, yellow labs, and any other kind of big dogs. Might be a drive for you but its a good place for your situation. Big dog area is fenced in so no little dogs can get in. Its on like 190th and Farmington. Big area for the dog to run around in too. If your coming from SE go on a Sat or Sun your most likely to find the most dogs then.

I have a great dane (7 years old now) and this is exactly the right idea. Most dane puppies don't realize how big they are and get honestly confused when small dogs freak out. The good news is that few danes are or become aggresive. Take him to the dog park and let him get pushed around by some big dogs. Don't let them fight of course, but let a bigger dog play rough with him. Danes are extremely smart, and your boy will figure it out. I found that when he got too rambunctious as a pup, making him lay down or lay on his side when he met a new dog worked very well. He'll get the idea that he has to be nice when he meets new dogs, plus, larger dogs like pits and shepherds are less likely to feel backed into a corner and want to fight. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Dude, awesome dog. My best friend has been wanting a great dane for years. She'd kill for a puppy.

great idea about the beaverton park. i think we'll have to take a trip tommorrow and see how it goes. yeah ill have him sit down or lay down which usually lets him calm down a bit but i dont want him hurting the small dogs or their owners freaking out like hes going to squish them. hes played with a pound or so pomeranian puppy and he did great but if he would do the dane paw habit i was afraid he would hurt it or worse lol.

Just seeing your Dane puppy lean (almost trying to sit) in to your sofa brings back memories of my Dane, Boogie. 150 lbs of love and slobber. We adopted him and it was amazing to win his complete trust. Good luck finding a playmate.

From the looks of it, he already knows how to drive, just give him directions to the dog park and tell him to gas the truck up before he comes home!

That is one gorgeous dog, I have Aussies but to far from you for a play day...good luck!

AW! So cute! Too bad you are not in the seattle area (or I'm not based in Portland) I have almost the SAME issue as you do!!

Moeby is about 9 1/2 to 10 months old and 95 lbs! I got him from the Seattle Humane Shelter and I think he's part Dane and part Hound. He is so cute and so gentle, but he's so big and doesn't know his own size. He is super great at dog parks and loves all animals and people. I just have to watch him around the smaller timid dogs cause he thinks: "hey you make noises like my squeaky toys, can I step on you?!?!" haha.

< Hoof or paw?

Consider yourself invited to Brentwood Park. It's in SE Portland and is entirely enclosed. Consequently, people feel more free to bring their larger dogs or their dogs that don't do as well at open, off-leash parks. In fact, there are several Dane owners that frequent this park. Beats driving to Beaverton, IMHO.

well after seeing cup after cup get knocked over by my great dane im sure some retarded bastard out there couldnt get used to it and figured hed fix it himself.. great dane tails are probably one of the longest out of dogs and they are about a half an inch diameter so they can knock some stuff out pretty easy..

Crazy. shit like that is so fucked up. Things like de-barking a dog I consider fucked up, despite being a veterinarian performed operation.

Some dude with 3 dogs next door. BARk Bark Bark .... Bark Bark Baarkk.

I am glad that my neighour did something about their dog without getting a rid of it.

I don't like doing things to animals like this; however, sometimes in a such a crouded society, it keeps things civil with the Neighbours.

Now my RC51, If I revved it at them at night, that would get the idea across???? At least when they complained, I could remind them that I dont' think of their dogs as lovely music!!!

But in a very good world, I'd have to agree.

Many Happy Puppy Waggs to us all!
