I laid it down cause i am stupid.
Hello,

So I am a statistic now. I was out on bell rd and i got target locked trying to slow down on a corner and I ate it. I am fine, unharmed accept my pride and my wallet eventually. liability only.....idiot me. Only damage was to front fairing on the left side, which is cracked all the way through, and the turn signal. So that really sucks and I probably shouldn't tell anyone, but here I am bearing it all.

Sucks bro. Take it as a learning experience.
Not to preach, seriously, don't take it that way...
90% (that's my own personal number) of the people that ride enter corners too hot.
Slow, Look, Press, Roll
yup, that's the instructor coming out.

Glad to hear you are okay.
But smile, it could have been much worse; and you are still able to learn from mistakes!

I did the same thing a while ago. On the same bike as you have listed, even.

It sucks for a while, but it was a good lesson for me!

Edit: You can actually see the result of that "incident" in my avatar...

Tim, glad you're ok, bud. It happens to the best of us (been down a few times in my years). I'm glad you're ok and your bike received pretty minor damage. That's an easy fix. If you need help installing parts or something let me know, will be happy to help out.

Be careful about target fixation. Reduce your speed entering corners and always focus through the turn. Best of luck in the healing process (body & pride). See you on the road soon!

Your right but it's Slow, Look, Roll, Press. Roll on some throttle before you lean. SLRP slurp corners. Slow enough before the turn so you are comfortable to be off the brakes and rolling on just a bit. Maintain throttle, Press to lean. When you see the exit of the turn Press more to hit the Apex and roll on gently. You might be able to keep rolling on all the way through the turn depending on the turn and what you see.

If you slow enough so you roll before you lean then you will be confident to make the turn. Or if you find you did not judge right and need to slow more you should be much closer to a comfortable speed to use some more brakes and still press to lean while braking and make the corner just fine. Learn from that mistake and do it right on the next one.

Glad your ok!

Good to hear
Good to hear you made it out OK..

I have been close a few times unfortunately I always choose to blow through the double yellow instead of low siding through a corner. (Which I have been very lucky no cars coming around at the same time)

Those front fairings like to shatter on the ex-500. I might just know a thing or two about that...

Anyways, the good news is your okay, and your bike isn't tossed. For future reference they don't really make frame sliders specifically for the EX-500, but you can easily retrofit honda 599 sliders from supply-N-demand onto your bike. It's all of maybe $60 total for front and rear sliders. I'll gladly show you how it's done and help you install them to help reduce damage should you go down again in the future (hopefully you don't).

They also make good highway pegs

Oh yeah, and I PM'd you asking for what was left over of your front fairing. May I please have it? I figure I can combine it with what I have left of mine and maybe get something functional out of it!

...just feel stupid, right? Sounds like pride/wallet was more damaged than anything. I've laid it down this year but for a more "stupid" $500-in-damages and totally preventable reason than yours. So there! I 1-up'd you! Feel better now?

Glad you're able to live and tell and have a bunch of PNWRs give you shiz.

Safe riding.

Wouldn't that depend on if it was a left or a right hand corner?

Glad you're ok!!!
But why are you beating yourself up about liability only in this situation? You DON'T want to claim a tiny little scrape like this!!! It will cost you more in the long run. Comp and Collision on a bike is pretty much to cover theft and if it's totaled. Anything under a $1000 you should be fixing out of pocket.

It happens to the best and worst of us.

Club membership isn't free, but the lesson is valuable.

Luckily, you're alright for the most part or should I say the important part.

Take care...

It happens. I've told you before that there are two types of riders: those that have been down and those that are going down. Welcome to the former. Thankfully you were able to walk away. Now learn from it. I've been there...a few times and thankfully only once on the street, but it was expensive cause I crashed my Duc. My 954 was easy and cheap to find parts for but I only crashed it at the track racing...twice.

Edit: I just found an extra "Team Toro" sticker that I earned the last time I went high speed gardening at the track...I'll bring it for you to adorn your bike with.

In good company...
I did the same thing a few weeks ago with my new bike. Target fixation sucks! I got reeled in by a ditch I couldn't look away from. I'm hoping it will become easier to avoid the "fixation" thing as I get more riding in. You hear people say it all the time "it happens to all of us", they're right, it does!

Glad you're okay and the bike is fixable! Keep your head up, it gets better!

BTW - I was very lucky to have only scratch damage, no cracks or major stuff but it still sucks! Here's what my tard moment looks like now:

There's a psychological pathology after your first crash
Sometimes it takes a while to get your head right after a spill like yours. This isn't necessarily true of just the first crash either. I have observed this in myself and others who have crashed, it especially true of someone who is in the process of building a basic skill set or taking their riding to the "next level". Make sure and give yourself some time to just enjoy riding again and let it come to back you, rather than trying to force it.

It may also be to your benefit to spend some time with a more experienced rider that can help you build back some confidence, there are some really great guys and gals that are willing to work with you.
