| Moderator ![]() Joined: Aug 2007 From: Portland, OR I Ride: Monster 750 | End of season reminder Since it looks like the rain and cold are upon us, a little friendly mother-henly reminder to those of you who do ride all year round. We were forced to remember last night on the Wednesday standing ride. Please remember that things are different now. The tires don't warm up as fast, the roads are slicker when wet, especially painted stripes, metal in any shape or form, moss and wet leaves (soon) and especially frost. Also - when riding in the rain - it's not only that you don't see others well, they have a much harder time seeing you too. We need to keep even more distance in the rain to account for that. Do the full bike check first (tire pressures, lube and adjust the chain, check cables, check lights, etc) and then try to remember a few things like keeping an eye out for road debris and the surface changes. Some people lower the tire pressure for winter to achieve a larger contact patch with colder tires. Starting out in the cold morning with cold tires on a cold pavement could be a recipe for a lowside, if not careful. And I am sure a lot of you could add a few words of wisdom here. For some of you this is very obvious stuff but for some, especially those who will attempt to ride all year round for the first time, it might be worth reading. Shiny side up! |

| MotoGP Champion | Real men don't do electric. ![]() I have never seen so much crashing in one season. A horrible spring, with seemingly everyone having some sort of incident. Then, people absconding to the track or stopping entirely during the summer spooked by all the street falls. And, then, in late summer and early fall, I began to notice no more crashes and very competent riding. Finally! But, now that fall is here and winter approaching, I just know the incidents are going to spike like they do every year. Be extra aware and extra careful. I have seen it happen before and I'm sure I'll see it happen again. Please keep your wits about you and SLOW DOWN on public roads as the season comes to an end! | |

Made sure the tires were nice and warmed up first of course. Just got new tires too, so the grip is fantastic! I leaned a little hard into a corner on one, though, scratched up my foot peg dammit lol. Thanks for caring Lena! |

| Zone Head Joined: Jan 2007 From: Lake Osghetto, OR I Ride: whenever I can | I did my final Fossil GP of the year last weekend. Any riding after Oct 1 is just "bonus time" for me. I ride year 'round, but I look for a different experience in the "off season". Knee dragging hooliganism is now on hold until April/May. ![]() |

The sliding fun is just beginning…it is good to know how much your bike will slide and still be in control, use the experience from the coming months for the spring/summer railing next year…. . | |
