Lightbulb I've been buying the wrong tires!!!
I've been buying the wrong tires this whole time!!!

I didn't know there were tires that you could get this much mileage out of. These came off a stock R6 even!
Someone grab these!

Hah! I'm more of a Michelin man for high mileage. I'd say the Pilot Roads are good for about 60k. Even more if you put a nice protective coat of varnish over the tread.

that depends on a lot of things. i have a set of continentals on my sv650 and have about 4,000 miles on them, and still have plenty of tread left, but they are a harder compound sport touring type tire. i know somebody who has an 07 KTM Superduke and rides on PP 2CT and very aggressively, 500 mile sport ride days, and is only getting 2500 to 3000 miles out of the rear

Depends on the tire
Depends on the bike
Depends on the rider<---I think this one applies the most

Those Bridgestones will last someone 2-4K miles depending on the bike and how they ride.

Maybe the extra "0" was a typo? Hey, he would know more than us "street squids" - he removed them to put on racing slicks.

Maybe you could stretch that to 25K if you pushed the bike around for a few (dozen) years...

CL AD has been edited and is no longer humorous...

"NEW TIRES off R6 2008 Bridgestone - $175 (Tualatin)

Brand new Bridgestone Battlax tires I rode the bike home and put racing slicks on it. These still have all the nubbs on them."

Cut 'n paste the original text next time.

huh?
i still got this

Brand new Bridgestone Battlax tires I rode the bike home and put racing slicks on it. These still have all the nubbs on them I can show you the bike they came off of it still has less that 50 miles on it. Don't buy soft worn out race tires get brand new that will last 20k on the street.

I'll cut n paste the ad next time.
blueline15 must have the original page cached so that's why he still sees the original.

20K on stock tires... I gotta get away from the "soft race tires" (don't tell the CL poster, but race tires are typically HARDER than street tires at room temp... they are made to run at higher temps and THEN they get sticky )

i got 6400 out of conti road attack rear
switched to michelin pilot roads hoping to get a bit more outta them.

note: mighta got a wee bit more out of the conti rear but i like to get a feel for wet weather conditions which either ends up in a small rolling burnout or a wheely. or once an embarassing lowside in front of school bus... ps never gas er too much in the rain around a cornor.

I've got approximately 10K on my tires. Front still has lots of tread, back has squared off a little bit due to mostly commuting miles but still plenty of tread there too. Is that really so uncommon?

I have a set of Dunlop Elite III's with now 10K on them, and they look like there still new.
Plenty of grip and thread depth.

I've got a little over 6k on my BT0-016's and the threads are just starting to show on the rear, and it's at the wear bars on the front. I definately wouldn't say that i take it easy on the tires. Seems like everybody's gettin alot less, is that really that high of a number?

ive got 16s and id have to say they have gotten about 2000 and they almost goners.. it all depends on how you ride them i guess.. and if you do trackdays and the types of roads you enjoy.

im talking more about sportbike tires not getting much not hds.. ive only ridden on hypersport type tires but ill probably slow it down a bit and jump on a touring set or something.. everybody seems to like the pilot roads

The linked article says they're new tires and don't mention mileage.

Ohhh, wait... this is another case of someone posting up a potential CL funny but not copying/pasting the original ad so the rest of the world misses it.

Nice job.

my bike is a commutter bike on conti road attack 2s. or was on those tires. from what i was told when i bought the tire i shoulda gotton around 7000-7500 but like i said i did numerous wet weather traction tests which im sure wore the tire out a bit. at 6400 miles i could barely see through the crakcs in the tire to the metal cords and didnt feel comfertable riding on it anymore.
hoping my new michelin pilot roads will net a few more miles and last me through the fall winter and spring.

shesh! if you would only take the time to read the entire thread and see that on post #14 i did copy and past the add in all its glory. this is what it said orginally . . .

your welcome!

EDIT* actually i dont think this is the exact copy. i think there was mention of them being the stock R6 tires he took off of his bike. but this is enough you can get the point of this guys infinite wisdom

I had a set of Power Race medium comp and got 3000+ street miles and 2 trackdays and 4 T.O.R. Then got 2 more trackdays from the front. Great tires, not bad for a 1000 at pir. Pirelli dragons they go fast real fast!

Bridgestone Battlax BT-002r/s or the new BT-003r/s they hold up to a HARSH 3k to 4k fossil runs t-days and have a super predictable feel for 200 bucks

corsa 3 are good but 1500 mi if your lucky " but better front end feedback" for 350 bucks

my wallet made that choice

I put on a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts last Tuesday. I've done 1k miles in the last week, and they show effectively no wear yet. I've read about guys getting 7-10k out of a rear which would rock, but I mainly got them for their wet grip, which from what I have experienced seems very good.

Damn... I do well to get 2500 out of a set of skins and 2k is usually a LOT closer to what i actually get... I would be afraid to ride on a 25000 mile sportbike tire if it existed... That shit would wash out so fast in a hard corner...

See ya missed the important part.. He let them sit on the shelf for 5 or 6 years so they got nice and hard.. Hard tire = more miles right?
