I made someone unhappy.... :(
I was on my way home from Tuesday night coffee and I managed to get behind a BMW going 35 in a 35. Now I am not a speed demon that demands 20 over, but come on! So I passed him. I never left the lane or blew the double yellow. Anyway driver honks and screams. I ignore him and accelerate off. He pulls up behind me and continues honking and screaming. Keep in mind I have done nothing further to antagonize him. So here is the fun part, he starts following me. So I start diving into parking lots, which he continues to follow me into. So I just keep on going and he keeps honking and screaming.

Needless to say my blood is pumping now, I keep evading. I am only about half a mile from home now and about a mile from the police station. Lets say people there like me . I figure if he keeps coming I have options. So I hit a main drag and I just take off and nestle myself into some other traffic and I don't see him again.

Much to my sadness I found that "Lane Sharing" is illegal. Now I am a law abiding citizen so I see that a car cannot prevent a motorcycle from lane sharing, but a motorcycle also cannot overtake a car even if done within lane and safely. Now it seems I committed a traffic violation, but then again Mad Max behind me has quite a few more and a few crimes as well during his little tirade.

This is the first such experience I have had in my young life. I didn't think I was driving aggressive and I was well within my safe limits and put neither myself or the other driver at risk and yet dude has a mental breakdown over the whole thing. Anyway, probably didn't NEED to post that, just was wondering if folks had thoughts or similar experiences.

honestly those people think they're badass, or want you to think that, or he had a girl in the car and wanted to show off, that's happened to me. Next time the second you suspect someones following you go to a parking lot, pull over and walk up to him like you're about to fuck some shit up and I bet you at that point he'll wanna "talk"

Be ready for a lot more incidences like this. Guys seem to get their pride hurt when you pass them for some reason. Fuck 'em and move on. This will happen again.

Im from cali and splitting lanes there is legal and personally I beleive when done tactfully and with caution I find it to actually create a safer surrounding. I would split lanes to get out of being trapped between a bunch of cagers that I didnt feel safe around and get my space were I wasnt trapped with out having space to make a evasive move if necessary. Needless to say imo I think lane splitting"when done safely can prevent accidents and wish it was legal in Oregon, I find myself battling constantly not to do it in certain situations here and for reasons like I mentioned above. In california theres a lot of courteous drives and when splitting lanes at a light to get to the front people would actually move out of your way and make a bigger path for you but there were a few occasions like the guy you passed tonight that didnt like it and would move there car to close the path or make it more difficult and one time comes to mind when I was with a friend and we were splitting lanes and this guy purposely moved over to try and block are path and saw his eyes looking in his side mirror at us, well "my friend" raised his elbow as we passed and it accidentally hit his side mirror and pretty much took it off it was hanging by a cable it appeared, very sad story It sounds like that should of happened to that guy following you and maybe instead of trying to chase you down he would of been to busy picking up the pieces from his mirror . On a side note this story was for entertainment purposes only and I do not recommend nor condone splitting lanes or damaging other vehicles in the process so please keep that in mind and drive safely and respect other motor vehicles.

When you get someone that ...... angry coming at you.
There are other issues going on.

A dude went nuts on me on burnside as I was going to 24 HR Fitness.

With 10 car lengths to spare, signals and all I "PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIM!!!""""

He is honking his horn, I figured there was some problem, pulled safely along side.

I did not get it till .....

So as he is yelling at me, I mocked his movements.

Hands in the air like I just don't care, head moving around, even opened up my visor.

This poor bastad needed to let off some steam.

Well he winds up in 24 hour fitness and was going there to work out.

He tried to avoid eye contact, I just got the biggest grin on my face, and kept working out. I guess the 230lbs on the * 10 pulldowns got him thinking a bit......

I don't want to get hoit!!!

Glad nothing escalated, I love and don't fight,

But if I get into battle I have to admit, I love to fight and train to get the job done with a minimum of bravado.

Glad you walked away, but someone with that kind of tenacity has more issues than what you may have provoked by your action.

people from different areas are more uptight than in other areas... and some more prone to being asswhipes... this thread and driver are a very good example of each, the rambo asswhipes and the uptight jackass in the car. most places with comon sense across the country (read, not the left coast) couldn't give a fuck.... its amazing how big a deal people can make out of nothing around here

Your so gay

Get used to that crap man and remember, there is no reasoning with the unreasonable. That prick will never understand. Just get the fuck outta there. Stop next to a cop and don't admit anything to the police, other than some crazed lunatic is trying to assault you with his car.

Huge overreaction on the drivers part (pretty silly following you around)...but what caused it was you illegally splitting lanes.

In CA where it's part of everyones driving experience it's not a big deal because you expect it, but in OR and WA you'll surprise someone - and that would piss me off.

Absolutely! NEVER get out of your car or follow someone you're pissed at, no matter how many 230lb pull downs you do. It may be the last thing you ever do.

Isn't that the point of riding a motorcycle? Use it and get the f*ck outta there!

Add jeeps and trucks to that list. And the ocasional suv and car lol
From my 9yr riding experience I can say I've had more issues with trucks and jeeps than anything else... and yea, bmw's come in 2nd place, tho half of those are kids that want to race lol

You = FAIL

1. You should have been able out ride him. I didnt even say speed, OUT RIDE.

2. You pulled into a parking lot? To what fight? Please either do it or dont but dont make the rest of look like shit heads. "If" I pull over somethings going to happen, then again, dude would not have been able to keep up in the first place. So no need to pull over.

PS THIS STATE HAS THE MOST ASSHATS I'VE EVER SEEN. JUST BECOME ONE IT'S EASY

Such awareness of bikes and we pretty much get preferential treatment, I love it. But - then you gotta put up with the crowds, traffic, too many bikes at times ... I dunno, I'd rather stick to clueless drivers only on occasion ...

I rarely weigh in on these things but here I go...

You passed him in his own lane. You really couldn't wait a couple minutes to get to an area where you could pass legally? You brought this on yourself and I woulda been pissed too (though I wouldn't have gone overboard like this guy) if I had been the cager.

Lol.. this totally reminds of a time last fall.

I was caging it down 405 SB, and didn't move over for this woman in her "sports car" see FORD PROBE, when getting on to the freeway. Now if it's legitimate I'll move over, but she had plenty of room to either A)accelerate and get ahead of me, and or B) get in behind me. The people who expect to "merge" and are NOT even doing freeway speeds are ridiculous.

Anyway, I see her get in behind and she's flailing about, so I move over to the middle lane and expect her to pass (though she could have in the middle lane is she was in such a hurry). She does, and is flipping me off next to me.. so I do the only thing I deem responsible, I wave and smile silly at her.. OMG!!!!!!

*picture a chihuahua in a parked car. you tap the glass and watch it just spaz the *Bleep* out. *

THIS is what the woman did.. LOL Kill 'em with kindness I say... So she proceeds to roll down her window and throw her Coke can at my car... Um, lets see we're doing 60+, and it's aluminum, HOW does she think that'll ever reach my car?!?! LMAO..

She almost misses her exit going 405 over the Markham, and I go below to I5. Oh good times I say....

Glad everything went well on your trip, but yeah, let the psychos just move on. And my dad pointed out, (like you thought of) if it's that bad, find the closest police station. 9/10 times they will just blow by.

I've had something like this happen on the way home. Some jack-master doing 20 mph in a 30 zone. No traffic ahead, behind (except me) or oncoming so I pass him. I stop at the next light and hear him yelling and screaming at me. I ignore and continue on. He follows for a while then turns off.

I'm not going to react to his B.S. nor do I care if he follows me home; shit, be my guest. Could I have not passed? Sure. Could he have not been driving like an asshat? Sure. Whatever, it was a safe pass and he obviously hasn't gotten any action from the wife/gf/hamster in a while and had to blow off steam.

This kind of thing happens. Remain calm. Either that or strike your fiercest Kung Fu pose and shoot them with your laser eyeballs.

I am also from california and a bit of a rebel. I SO want to break the law here and lane split.

Hey cops and politicians, green peeps! You want to have less smog? Let the bike lane split. Promote riding a motorcycle to work. Every minute we SIT in traffic is more smog in your beautiful city. Plus less people late for work. That might mean also the guy or girl who makes your latte, or any other person who provides a service tot he public.

stop letting other people think for you and listen to me dammit.

i miss smiling at sardine cans as a stroll on by and get home in record time.
