Good traffic lawyer?
Im from Walla Walla, but was in Oregon City last night visiting family.
Got a speeding ticket. Now, I'm not here to complain about it, or say I didn't do it. Although it was genuinely an accident, I was speeding, and I got caught.
However, I would rather this stay off my insurance, and I would definitely not like to give money to the revenue collecting pig that is most of traffic enforcement today.
So anyone know any good traffic lawyers?

I haven't had to use them, but I know some who have. VERY good success rate.

You might also try a quick search on this forum.

FYI - You might want to edit your post of any admissions of guilt or innocence if you're going to fight it...

You should be able to challenge it and show up to your court date and the fine will be reduced also if the cop doesnt show you can get out of it. Also they can give you the option of taking a class and not having it go on your record.

If you have a clean record you can ask/offer to plead guilty and ask for divirsion. You will end up with a portion of the fine and if you do not have another ticket for 3-6 mo. it will never be on your record. If you were in O.C. it was most likley lazer and good luck fighting it. Radar on the other hand I have beaten the last two!

Don't waste your money. Nothing adds insult to injury more than paying for your ticket AND your traffic lawyer's tab. Traffic lawyers will normally do nothing more than what you can do yourself, which is to show up and see if the Officer does. If so, then talk to the Officer in a polite and respectful manner and try to negotiate a deal.

Unless you want to shell out big bucks and have a high end lawyer try to fight the fundamentals of LASER technology (which is what the majority of Officers use these days) over the course of several days, then you are better off taking care of it yourself.

No shit. Facing consequences for our actions is just so darn inconvenient.

Especially since they're just generating revenue as been proven by..uh..well...it's got to be true, right?

I'm a speeding ticket guru. Seven strong and only one has stuck. Ironically enough I wasn't guilty of the one that stuck, but Oregon's "preponderance of evidence" is complete and utter horse shit.

First off, some counties don't allow for diversion. Find out if yours does as that is a very simply way out and far cheaper than a laywer. Also many counties don't allow you to take a class and have the ticket go away. Multnomah doesn't allow either for example, so don't listen to blanket statements about how things are handled in OREGON. Washington is a bit more uniform oddly enough...

Second of all, subpoena the officers notes. The clerk at the court house will be able to help you do so. Hell subpoena damn near everything you can. If you subpoena something and it doesn't show up you did not receive the defense you are entitled too, and it can help get the case dismissed.

Third, see if you've got any potential argument to fighting the ticket. Discrepencies in notes, etc. Be aware Oregon doesn't require burden of proof, they simply require "Preponderance of evidence", meaning if it is even remotely likely the cop is accurate you're GUILTY. That means you need a rock solid piece of evidence that you didn't do it and he is completely and utterly wrong.

Fourth: Rescheduling is important, and try and grab a different weekday than the one you are assigned and push it a ways out. Officers often lump all their tickets into one day so as they don't have to constantly show up in court every day. If you are lucky and get them on a day where you're the only person and they are more likely to not show up. Also if they're a state trooper they may be positioned elsewhere in the state, so the likely hood of them not showing up increases.

Fifth, show up. The officers are always there early and you can speak to them. They're not all douches (by a long shot), and I often see people negotiate with the officer to dismiss tickets, with no bribing, heh. Talk to the officer and feel it out. Also if the officer doesn't show your ticket is dismissed. I would also say that 95% of the time, unless you admit being guilty, the judge will drop your charge down to the minimum fine.

That's all you can do really. There is a female traffic ticket lawyer I saw work her magic though for some people in the court room. She's a fox, she goes in and flirts with all the dudes, they blather to her about their dating lives, and then she slyly asks to speak with them and her client. Every time the ticket was dismissed with ease, and she kept laying on the sugar to the guys. If you can find this chick, hire her. Boo to the fact that a lesser form of prostitution is what it takes to be innocent though, even if you are wrongly accused.

Does anyone smell bacon? Seriously though, cops cost money they don't make it. There just may be a better use of there time?

The last time I tried to contest a ticket the judge flipped to the second page of my record and said "really, full fine sir. You are a habitual speeder."

...because when a police department is facing budget cuts that may cost them employees (friends), they certaintly wouldn't possibly consider giving out fines to help avoid such a situation.

There's far better things to do. Like hunt down car and motorcycle thieves! WHat the hell is Portland even doing about this? They just take down your information and say "We'll call you if it shows up".

Take some of the impounded motorcycles and do what they do in Canada, ala BAITCAR. Set the damn thing up to specifically catch motor vehicle thefts.

In response to Golfer 44..........Without! and Clackamas County (which is where Oregon City is) does do divirsion. Just helped a buddy who got picked on 213 goin 77 in a 45 construction zone. $130.00 (down from like $700) fine, 40 dollar 2 hr class and divirsion (doesn't get another speeding ticket within 90 days) and the ticket doesn't even show on your record! honestly the way to go if you have a good record. $130.00 is a cheap "don't do it again" reminder I think!

I'm pretty sure that not all or most of the money we shell out for speeding is not going directly into the police force kitty. Regardless, my point was that cops are very expensive to employ. I worked as a high level analyst with the city of Beaverton and know the cops with a two year degree and a couple years experience made a healthy wage. Not to mention early retirement and great pensions.

Portland is testing a system that takes photos of all license plates in order to match them to a database. If that car or bike comes up the cops have a general location to look. If your a big brother is watching freak then whatever. If you have a warrant or stole a car you should get what is coming. I have!!!

I speed almost constantly and if I get a ticket I say crap. I may not agree with the rules, but what can I do to change them. Sorry most people do not support people traveling at high rates of speed, but no one likes a ticket. When someone speeds down your residential street you probably say "hey slow down there are kids and dogs and this is a neighborhood. But when you get into a neighborhood that's not your own, then lets get going. Even soccer moms do it, it's just natural.

So, people hate getting tickets as do I, but I know the rules so if I get caught I know to consequences. If you cant pay the fine don't do the crime. Oh, my last ticket was a 97 in a 65 for $422. I have 13 of them!
