The tires are expensive, and they are a super bitch to mount, but its possible. A couple of guys bring sportbikes with ice tires mounted just top F around, but as far as I can tell (I have never ridden a sportbike on the ice) they appear to be too heavy to go fast on the switchback ice "road" course. Not my crowning moment for intelligence but man was it fun! Putting your foot down though is deceptively hard as the little ninja is a fair sight heavier than the dirt bikes I'm accustomed to riding. There were more than a few times I thought for sure I was going to eat snow covered pavement. Bet it would have been just as fun (if not more so) with those bad boys! |

Now, stud up some tires like a car and you've got a more versatile all-rounder. Here's me and Comet wondering what I'm about to get into before ever trying them. ![]() Lemme tell you, they work GREAT! Rubber for good bare pavement traction and enough studs for good traction on glare ice. Check out some of my ride reports in my sig line if you're interested in more pics and info. Mark H. ![]() |

I used to ride year round (no car for 4-5 years) and ended up highsiding late one night and getting a concussion in the snow on my KTM. I was riding from seattle to lynnwood, main roads, freeway, etc.. I was only 2 blocks away from home when I tossed it, lol. Last edited by sunofnun; 10-23-2009 at 05:43 AM.. |
