The Kawasaki triples have one of the few all time great looking engines. The others that "do it" for me are the Honda CBX, Oil cooled GSXR's, Z1/900, Bevel drive Ducati's, V twin Vincent, Unit Triumph twins, Manx Norton, and BSA Gold Star.
I have several 500 motors, and this picture..

Portland Region

..makes me want to put one together as an ornament for the cave.

There was-is a 500 in Spokane on CL for $500. Its just a rolling chassis with the bottom end of the motor. Good for parts. I would post a link but CL is blocked here at work. BTW sweet bike. I want one and will get one someday. Ever check out 2strokeworld.com? Its a pretty good site. More Yami than Kawi but pretty good.

This Motor was Vapor Blasted, using water, it closes the pores on the Aluminum and will never oxide , also all dirt and grease will not soak in and wipe right off. The navy has been using this on submarine since 1962. This motor has no paint,as close to OEM as you will ever get.

What prep ,if any, required?
I have some barrels and heads that are quite "furry". Should I bead blast them first?
I'm guessing that threaded holes are not damaged by vapour blasting?

No reason to bead blast at all, Vapor blasting will take care of that, I have had way worse done and they come back like new,OEM

Im glad to see the Si-7 Bel Ray in the background, its the only oil I will run in my triples.

The Triples get some NON-Ethanol Fuel
Well pulled the triples out of hibernation and fed them some Non-Ethanol fuel just like they used to drink in the old days Man they love that stuff. If your bike is 1995 or older that's all you should be running.
