Make a call to Matt to let him know I'm on my way and it goes to voice mail so I leave a message . I'm out of the driveway at 3:25pm . I go back to Detroit because REMEMBER !!! we were just 13 miles from that gas station from where he crashed so it was just going to be 13+ miles of curvy roads and then I was going to pick him up . But NOPE he was nowhere to be found ! Even stopped a few places where there were turn outs and yelled for him . I drove to Ripplebrook ranger station and not there either . So I drive to Estacada where I can get cell service and finally get Matt on the phone . I guess he decided to keep riding the bike to ripplebrook when he told me he was just going to go up the hill to a flat spot to park out of the way and the guy on the FJ1200 was going to follow . SO moral of the story is STICK TO THE ORIGINAL PLAN ! Don't deviate from it . So I wasted almost a full tank of gas in my Jeep not to mention the hours of driving time to get back home and the to hook up the trailer and drive the Jeep all of the way out there for nothing . I could have just kept my mouth shut and went on the rest of the ride and came home and bbq'd some burgers and had a great evening . But NO , I had to learn a good lesson today and in the future I'm just gonna keep on riding cause others can just call a tow truck ![]() Lee , Thank's for Taking the time out of your day to lead us on a great ride Oh and to add , I even stopped off at McDonalds and got him a # dbl quarter pounder meal deal with a Coke cause I figured he'd be hungry ........... Gee I'm such a nice guy lmao ! Last edited by chevybutcher; 08-26-2012 at 07:35 PM.. |

Boitano happened to be driving by with his dirtbike in his pickup at 3:30 and stoped to check on us. I told him Bruce should be there anytime and I would call as soon as i got into svc. John went back to portland unloaded and came back since i hadnt called. At 6pm we decided to load the bike since we hadnt seen Bruce. I wondered what had happened to him but after sitting on the side of the road with bruised ribs and a broken bike all day i wasnt going to take a chance that i would be stranded. Also, Kelby wasnt leaving me till i got out of there. When i got down into svc i called Bruce to find he was in estecada and didnt sound happy. Im not sure how but he would have had to drive past us by the sound of it. There you have it. cant exactly make everyone happy here but i do appreciate all the help. So im the asshole i guess.

Again, my most sincere and heartfelt apologies. Please understand, we actually thought we were making it easier on you, but unfortunately it was totally mishandled (at least my part) and ended up screwing you over. Last edited by FeralRdr; 08-27-2012 at 11:06 AM..

I had no idea there was a back way there as I have never been anywhere near that area. I also had no idea there would be no cell svc at the ranger station. I felt bad for sure but not as bad as I would have spending the night in a gravel patch on a road i had never been on. He said it would take 1 1/2 hr to get his jeep which i later figured to mean get TO the jeep. 6 hours later my concern was pretty well justified. (i never would have Been ok with an all day mission on my account) Also, the only way he could have been in estecada later if he came the other way was to drive past us at the ranger station. I would have driven to the lake instead if i knew that was where he was coming from. Bottom line, I wasnt excited about making anyone cut off their ride to begin with and was trying to make it easier and safer. I rode sweep A LOT this year as well as supported the new rider safety rides because It is important to me that everybody makes it home. I have a lot of respect for Bruce stepping up to help. This whole thing just got screwed up. I apologised more than once to him so i guess it just is what it is. It was screwed up enough at the time that I dont want to make a 20 page thread on it though. |

| Shredder | Well other than the SNAFU incident, it ended up being a long day for us. We didn't make it back to Estacada until 8:44 PM. Long but great ride. Here are just a few picts I got up at the Dee Wright Observatory. ![]() ![]() ![]() Not to beat a dead horse, but let me at least just say thanks to Bruce for making the attempt to pick up 'the other other Matt'. Once again, I am sorry for my part in the SNAFU. I also want to give big kudos to Kelby for staying with Matt and escorting him until he was picked up. Sorry about your fairing Kelby. Hopefully, you can get a reasonably priced fix. |
