I think what bugged me most is that the basher has such a dark soul that he actually thought Daniel was better of. That assumes that Daniel didn't love his kids and want to care for them. And, to say that he was better off completely disregards the kids, who are definitely NOT better off, either socially or financially.

It's really disheartening to realize that some people are so coarse.

The basher reminds me of one of the 'ghosts' in C.S. Lewis's "The Great Divorce"

a shriveled remnant of what was once a human soul. A soul that has made a life time's worth of voluntary decisions to laught at, instead of cry with, to rage against rather than understand, to hate rather than forgive, to serve itself rather than others, in short to become what it is today.

A soul that at some level recognizes and recolls from what the horror it has become, that deep down understands what a beautiful thing it once had the potential to be, and its self loathing can only find release by trying to bring all others down to its level.

So as much as his post angers me, on reflection, the poster is aready living in a far worse hell than I would, in my darkest moment, wish upon him.

So I shall pity him instead. (as Daniel probably does)

Also, it was on the OVERPASS where you exit I-5 going south to head for Milwaukie. He was a GREAT person, about as opposite of you as one could be. After reading your post, I am quite glad that you don’t ride – the “bikers” that I ride with wouldn’t want you hanging out or riding with us. Since you don’t ride, it is a safe conclusion that you have NO experience with most bikers and “biker culture” as you call it. NEVER tie the rope to the Non Running bike, if you lose control you are going down hard and fast. You need to loop the rope around something and then pinch it off with your hand so that if you let go the rope uncoils and releases the bike from the Tow bike. But again I would strongly suggest not even trying this, Ever. A 400 pound motorcycle tied to a rope is an accident just waiting to happen. Also when you create slack in the rope as the non running bike gets moving, the rope is easily caught up in the rear tire of the towing bike. Like I said, Just say NO to this kind of towing, unless its a truly desperate situation, because if it isn't already, it soon will be !!!
Be safe !!

Speaking of towing a motorcycle:

Harsh? How about honest, common sense. No one else is saying the truth, and thats what I said. Everyone else is kissing her feet, obviously something she's used to with the attitude that she has shown. I don't live my life pussy footing around the issues, and if someone is a snob and treats the world as "FUCK YOU" because they are an idiot, then I'll say something.

I kinda agree. If it was me I would be shocked that no riders stopped to help, but I don't think posting an "F you" thread is exactly tactful, nor gives the riding community a better reputation which we certainly deserve.

At any rate, people have bad days and I can understand the frustration caused by such a dilemma, I'm certainly not prepared for a breakdown myself. And it's always good to gain a new member to our community no matter the circumstances.

Welcome aboard.

Dude, it's called venting. The board is called "Rants and Raves", not "Documentation of My Life Philosophy". If you're pissed off about something, it's cathartic to just yell and scream for a few minutes to get it out of your system. I have posted more than my share of intentionally over-the-top vitriol on craigslist. It's the cyber equivalent of holding a pillow over your face while you scream at the top of your lungs.

She had a bad day.. give her a break.

So, newbie, I presume you are here just to stir up shit and have no intention of actually trying to understand the zeitgeist here.

And, no, what you are talking about with personal responsibility is exactly the me-me attitude.

What we are talking about is community and helping one another, subsuming our immediate personal needs to the needs of others, because we realize we can't do it all on our own, and we are at our best when we can rely on others when our best personal efforts fail.

P.S.: I see that you've actually been on the forum for a few months now. So, I apologize for mistaking some of your intentions. I thought you had jumped on the forum just today in response to the rants and raves postings.

My insurance has roadside on it, so I know I could have gotten towed. However, I knew EDR was only a couple miles from where I was, I didn't want to have to get it towed for such a short distance, it would have been a waste.

I ran out of gas up on McNamee road couple of Sundays ago, and had to walk for a while. Most of my friends were out of town, so I was SOL. After walking for about couple of miles, with my gear in hand on Skyline, a nice older guy in a truck stops to ask me what was going on and helpes me out. He stopped even though he was on his way to church with his kids in the back, turned back around and went to his house and got me a can of gas. He even brought a rag along saying: "In case you get some gas on your tank." I was passed by about two dozen people on a bike and not even one of them would return a wave. Short of the people on this forum, that I have had a pleasure of knowing, I don't expect another person on a bike to even wave to me.

Neenja Mastah, you should have really stopped in at MotoCorsa, those guys are really cool, no matter what you ride.

I know this...

Everyone I ride with would have stopped... That's what surprises me, that nobody stopped. We can't be the minority... CAN WE???? Just because we're on a forum?

I think everyone that knows me and has my cell phone number knows that they can call me ANYTIME- day or night... while at work or anytime... and I will get my truck, gas can, or whatever is needed and come help them out. And I would like to think they would do the same for me. Everyone at my job knows this, and several are riders (including the CEO, and my direct boss the CIO) and would EXPECT me to help out someone. I would probably even stay on company time for it. THAT'S the mentality of my friends and work environment.

That being said, I don't EXPECT TO RELY on people to bail me out everyime I go for a ride. I take the apporiate precautions, give my bike a "once over" before leaving, have roadside assistance on my insurance, carry a basic tool kit, and have a tire plug/C02 filler kit etc.... But SHIT HAPPENS.

Gawd, I would hope that if the same thing were to hapopen to my wife and I were out of town, that someone would simply lend her a hand.

Nobody EXPECTS that everyone SHOULD stop... but NOBODY stopped... and the jeers and sneers of the passers by was totally uncalled for. Then the jackasses reply - THAT pissed me off! It was a good thing it was in text and not in person. I'd have been calling some of YOU to bail me out of jail.

I think what people are confusing is that I was *expecting* people to help me. (some of the JA's on craig's thought I expected it because I'm a girl)
But I was really just appalled at everybody's total indifference at the fact that someone needed help.
I never expect someone to help, I'm actually a very independant person. But the people that sat back and watched me struggle need a wake-up call that not everything is about them, and it couldn't hurt nor hinder them to simply ask if I was ok.

I totally agree.

I believe you were clear in your original rant, and my wife and I read all the craigs list replies on the topic last night... The follow ups were just plain biased jackasses and most didnt even make valid arguments for their objections.

But you have found a good group of people here, so it has a happy ending

Oh... and let us know what was wrong w/ the Ninja. EDR will take good care of you!

I don't know what's wrong with it specifically. I have to keep adjusting the idle screw. Yesterday after it died and after I pushed it to EDR I turned the screw all the way on and it started fine, so I adjusted it back down again. It seems like I have to keep adjusting it though. Oh and riding home sometimes when I slow down it sounds like it wants to die so I rev the throttle and it goes back to normal.

You might need to rebuild the carbs, or clean them. I am not sure how much, or how hard it is on a bike (only worked on car carbs), but here is the carb breakdown from Bike Bandit: http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...1093#stay#stay

EDR took them apart and fixed them all up for me already.

I Ride: In search of the next 35mph corner......
Wow.

I've gotta say, this post is amazing.

So Edenite....you are always "prepared" for any possible problem that might come about in your life?

You wouldn't have any problem if, when in a time of need, several individuals just stood back and watched you struggle?? You must be one tough dude.

It is obvious to me, (and others here) that you totally missed the reason for Neenja's frustration.

HARSH. Yea, thats what your comment was. If you actually thought this thru prior to posting, it merely proves that there are people out there like she described.. uncaring, self absorbed folk that just don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. Sad. Truly sad.

Tell me, how exactly is she an idiot?

Let me spell it out for you...**dammit...where are my crayons..*

1.) She broke down. Kind of hard to plan for that....unless you have someone with a trailer following you around all the time...is that what you do??
2.) She was pushing her bike. Not a bicycle....a MOTORCYCLE. A bit heavier than a bicycle (in case you missed that part)
3.) No one she passed had the common courtesy to even ASK if she needed help. Why?? Well....they're all uncaring, self absorbed folk. (I think you'll understand that part)
4.) because of # 3, she got a bit miffed. I don't blame her one bit. Someone should have stopped.

Ok...hope that helps.

Neenja, welcome to PNWriders. I can assure you that there are plenty of people on here that are not self absorbed, uncaring jerks (referring to all the people you passed while pushing your bike, of course)

Don't "lay low". Enjoy your stay.

1) She broke down. I understand that. I understand how hard it is to push a bike. But she pissed alot of people off, rightfully so. If you go in a public place/even online and go off saying "FUCK YOU" to everyone because THEY had other things to do, then you rightfully so are going to get people replying.
She replied a few posts ago and said she had TOW COVERAGE on her insurance.. Are you kidding me, and yet she comes and freaks out about no one helping her? How about you help yourself.

2) If my bike breaks down, I don't EXPECT anyone to stop, its not THEIR problem. It sure would be nice, but she was expecting people to stop. That's a ME ME ME attitude. Learn Responsibility, no one owes you anything.

3) Two days ago, a bicyclist had a flat, and I was going to stop but didn't because it was at an intersection of 205 and Highway 43. I DROVE ON.. Holy crap, what a jerk I am. I'm just like everyone else, we're all pricks aren't we?

4) Someone should have stopped? So, its someone elses problem? THEY Should bail her out? She admitted to having insurance to cover a TOW. If she knew she'd have to PUSH it that many blocks and uphill, call a TOW!!

It's like a teenager that always blames his/her parent for their troubles. The parents reply, get a job if you want a car. To this chick, don't complain if you cant handle yourself, its your life, its your responsibility, don't tell everyone else "FUCK YOU" because you failed to plan, failed to call AAA, failed to rationalize that its not everyone else's problem.

Geez kids, give it a rest. How about closing this post Santi? If folks want to critique one another beyond this, send 'em to CL. Apparently many already know how to use it so let's not duplicate it here. Out.

Give what a rest? I see no reason at this time to close the thread.

No direct personal attacks, just simple discussion.

All I got out of this was that if someone is outside of there car and alone, I will pull over, otherwise, I will trek on. Except for motorcycles, I'll pull over for those (unless they're in shorts).

The underlying point you make is one I agree with completely. Todays society seems to be full of individuals that have issues taking responsibility for thier actions. The attitude that "the world owes me ..." just pisses me off to no end.
But with that said, what I also see more and more is a lack of compasion for others. People just don't care anymore. Maybe her rant hit you differently than it did me, 'cause I didn't get that she expected anyone to stop..she didn't think it was "anyone elses problem". She handled it by herself. I felt she was just amazed that not only did no one help...some even made smart ass remarks..

You say she "pissed some people off". In my book, they should have been ashamed of themselves..not pissed off.

You are correct tho..the world doesn't owe us shit. We need to be prepared to handle whatever comes along and not expect that someone will come to our aid. But on the other hand, we need to always take the time from our busy schedule to help out someone in need. It's just the right thing to do.
