Dont Drive On Bald Tires!
My Fiance and I were driving to dinner this evening when a lady rolled her impala in front of us. Had she been on good tires, her car never would have fishtailed.

Luckily she wasnt seriously hurt, but those few minutes pulling her out of the smoldering wreck were pretty tense.

Just thought I would post up a reminder to check your car tires. Wet slippery roads are on their way this fall. Just cause your car has twice as many rubbers as the bike doesnt mean we can neglect them.

With a loss of appetite Julie and I ordered STIFF drinks and a salad for dinner...

I'm guessing you guys were taking the I-205S cloverleaf exit off 500W close to 8ish? I was heading to Chuck E. Cheese with the kid and saw an overturned car, with 1 WSP on site, and medics / firetrucks entering 500E on their way.

You sure it wasn’t a sheriff, and not some innocent civilian? I sense a pattern here from what I’m hearing.

They are not bald...they're slicks!

I saw a GSXR at a Moses Lake Chevron a few weeks ago with a lot cords showing on his tire!

Also, keep away from tires w/ too many heat cycles.

i rode on my back tire until i got some strings showing. so i decided to burn out until it pops.. well it took like five minutes of really nice burnouts and it finally it went flat. so you can ride ok with strings but just not the best grip thats all

young grasshopper, the lack of descent traction is just the tip of the problems that bald tires bring, like the typically more warn center which creates a steep “ridge” that will dramatically increase turn in when you hit it, the less rubber between the air in the tire and the assfault.... more and more i don't wanna see another bike fatality story on here, so lets just pretend our lives are worth the ~300$ and be proactive about not winding up a paraplegic.

With all the rain we have here in the NW, All Season tires or Rain Tires are something worth seriously considering. Changing them long before they are wore out is a pretty good idea also. A tread pattern with grooves that go to the outside always seems to work best in the rain too..the water has to go somewhere. Siping is another thing that works well in the rain. So far the best tire I personally have used in severe wet conditions is the Nokian WR All-Weather Plus, it's a Severe Winter Service Tire with the Mountain and Snowflake on the side, basically a Studless Snow Tire. Amazingly enough they are one of the quietest tires I have used in 35 years of buying car tires. WR's also have a Speed Rating of H, good up to 130 Mph. They might be a bit extreme? But it's the only tire I have used that makes cornering in heavy rain feel like your driving on dry pavement. Sorry for talking about car tires at a MC forum, the OP was about a car with bald tires and the monsoon season is upon us.

Boy howdy, the first poster above sounds like a candidate for a Darwin award if that type of thinking continues.
Russian roulette comes to mind, that's what you're playing by running on a tire with cords showing.

Who needs good tires. 4x4 for the win. All you need is some weight in back. Though it would be nice having studs this year for stopping power.

Don't be sorry, good post and on topic for this thread.
I run studs every Winter, where I live they are an absolute necessity.
Even studs aren't always enough to get up the hill here and sometimes not enough to get out of the driveway.
I always keep a good 4X4 on standby for extreme weather duty.
Rain tires are a good idea for the lower elevations but even then there are a few days a year when we get black ice and once in a while even some snow down to the valley floor.
It seems that every Winter a good percentage of the population goes out with no traction devices like suicidal lemmings running for the sea and then the news cameras have something to show besides snowflakes and slow traffic.
If you have to drive when the weather gets icy, have a set of chains in your car if you don't have studs, otherwise stay home!

This video always cracks me up.

Having a 4X4 will get you going but stopping is an issue --
being around the tow industry for the past 20 some years -- 4X4's are almost always the first ones in the ditch.

If riding your bike -- remember with the glare and mist of the rain -- you are harder to see --
maybe consider adding more reflective.

Ya thats why i mentioned i wanted to get some studs since i really dont have any stopping power. If it snows like it did last year i may get chains.

Aint that the truth I get around pretty good in mine without studs (36" Superswampers) but I have no illusions about being able to drive faster than everyone else because I have 4 wheel drive and I do have chains for a back up.
I've been a four wheeler for over 30 years and couldn't tell you how many 4X4 rigs I've pulled out of the ditch who got there driving too fast.

4x4 Fail
Having owned a number of Power Wagons and CJ5's and currently an owner of an AWD Honda. For on road snow and ice conditions on pavement with any 4x4 you get 4 wheels synchronized on take off, and 4 wheels synchronized for braking and while your rolling you are less apt to have either end brake free because the front and rear axles are working as a team. But here is where the unexperienced over zealous 4x4 drivers fail every time...your still driving on ice and snow making contact to the ground with 4 tires just like everyone else.

Yeah this is where the "Look I have a big 'ol ownen' the road, I drive better than you because my truck is 20 tall and I chew tobacca, little wiener carrying, 4X4 truck" are just a menace. They usually don't have the brains to think that although they might be able to get going they have all that weight distributed over large area on them their Truckin' tires that don't have as much grip to stop. And there you find them off in the ditch or careening into another car then blaming everyone else and that no one else except their stupid 4x4'en ass should be the only one's out drivin'.

Idiots.

I wasn't stereotyping, sorry if it came across that way, I was just stating I have seen my fair share of guys who do fit that description that's all.

Yeah, there are some for sure but there and many more who may fit that discription and are not dumb as a rock.
Lots more who are just dumb kids that haven't grown up yet,it's just the style out here in the hills where I live.
In the city there are just as many, well actually more being as there's more people who are just as dumb only in little cars with big wings on the back and giant stereo speakers.
At least big tires have a purpose, lots of off roading to be done up here,I have 12.50 X 36 mudders on my rig and I'm not even a serious off roader anymore.

Neato old rig!
Heh heh ,I've had whole slew of old 4X4's,had a '63 Dodge short stepside too but it wasn't a 4X4.
I've had IHC,Jeep,Chevy & GMC.
My '78 pictured has a mild built 454/beefed up turbo400tranny and 4:56 gears so it's a pull'n old beast.

Thanx! It still runs, I sold it to a guy in Gig Harbor that Truck Pulls with it. Still running on the same .030 over 318 I built from the crank out in '84. It's the gray one in this video at the 1:29 mark, in the video it's claimed to be a 360 but the guy who made the video was guessing. I talked with the new owner this summer, he's driving in the video. It's the same motor that was in the truck when I sold it, except he had to remove the aluminum intake and go to cast iron to be legal in his class.
