Advice on Tires
I am in the market for tires on a Ninja 650r any advice on what to buy or where to go?

I mostly commute and want to get decent wear out of the next set.

As far as what to get... there are a LOT of choices. I personally went with he Pilot Road 2CT's, but there are a lot of options, as well as opinions.

Where to buy from: Cycle Gear, and get the road hazard warranty for at least the rear!

go see Sage Wilkinson at SDS Performance in Lake Oswego. He has excellent service and prices on tires.

As far as which brands, its up to you.

Typical high mileage sport tires are along the lines of:

Pirelli Diablo Strada
Michelin Pilot Road

I just started running the Diablo Stradas on my Bandit 600... Vive la Difference!! It's a terrific tire, and wearing quite nicely. I took them to a cornering clinic recently that involved plenty of peg scraping, and the tires gripped really well. In the mornings, they are sticky and ready to go with virtually no warm-up time.

I dig 'em!!

I get mine at either D&S Cycles in Aloha or EDR in downtown Portland. Their prices are reasonable and installation is as cheap as anywhere. They can also turn them around in a day (or while you wait) in most cases.

I've ridden on the Stradas on other bikes and like them. On your bike, you should get 7,000 or more miles.

I have conti raod attacks that would be in the sport tour class of the mich pilot road. They were cheap, wearing great (3k so far), heat up immediately, grip really well in dry for what they are, and grip well in the rain too. The tread pattern looks cool and it never runs out of sidewall. Still not scrubed to the edge draggin my knee. Single compound and require a little more psi than stock. Great tire for my svs 650.

Metzler Z6's. I got 12K out of a set, 10K out of another, riding VERY hard on my BMW K1200GT (about 850 lbs with me on it, without luggage).

Great wet traction, very good lean angle (I scrape the pegs). Very smooth through the tire's life.

Is it a 2006? Black/Red? 2008+ Black? If so, you don't need tires, the bike is shot. Sell it to me.

2006 Silver/Red... Took it to EDR and got a quote on a Dunlop Qualifier rear for $185. As soon as I get a dry day and some time I am going to go hook it up.

Buy your tires 'matched'. Or, if you just need ONE, then buy a tire that will work with the tire you already have. Dont mix brands or even same brand, differant model.
Motorcycle tires are designed to work as a TEAM for your bike. Miss matching can screw-up handling, or worse.
