Talking Commuter Parking Downtown
Folks, after parking in my current garage for the last year, they've decided to move us all to the roof...just in time for winter.

Where are the rest of the downtown moto commuters parking? Any good deals? How about the SmartPark garages and experience there?

Thanks.

I'd be curious to know about Smart Park as well. I read that monthly parking is $30/month, but first-hand experiences would be appreciated.

The smart park monthly passes vary in cost, depending on which lot you use. The lot on 3rd and Alder, for example, is 30 bucks/month for bikes... unlimited in/out privileges. The lot on 6th and Alder, though, is the same monthly rate as for cars, I think about 3 bills/month! I'm sure you can guess which of those two options I use, even if it does mean walking a couple blocks further!

I park at work and ride Fair-less Square metro to school.

But I'm lucky. There is some free parking here and there, but you have to look for it. With all the construction going on many times you can find a spot that is without a meter. But that's kinda sketch and not real consistent.

When I worked in downtown Seattle, we had a deal with one of the nicer hotels, $2.00 a day, ride it in and park somewhere out of the way. Think the attendant just pocketed the $, but didn't care, dry and safe. (2002) Whenever I have stayed in Portland, the only place that has charged me full price for parking the Harley is the Hilton right downtown.

smart park at 3d and alder is okay, though you end up parking in unsupervised areas.
there is a garage at big pink which is $30/mo(?) and supervised, but it's crowded and the spots are on a big grade.
there is parking by the wells fargo building that is supervised, but it's more expensive ($3/day?).
there is also parking at pacwest, but it's on a daily basis, and i'm not sure what the current rate is.

My company pays for the lot across the street from the 3rd & Alder Smart Park, so I don't know what the cost is. I see several bikes in there each day. When I have ridden I just take a full spot. My company pays for a full spot for my car, so in my mind it applies for the motorcycle. Nobody has said a word yet. Most of the other bikes park in any area they can find that is out of the way.

Used to park @ the 3rd & Alder garage......back when the fee was only $20 a month ......the office where I worked was only a block away......still, even today.....think this is thee best way to deal with a downtown commute.....NO bus to wait for, & when traffic really sux......you can alwys ride around the problem.
