WOW......i just got home recently....jesus those were absolutely the WORST and SCARIEST riding conditions I've ever been in.....and I ride year-round, like 2k per month (!).
Mark and Logan, I give you guys a big thumbs up for braving those conditions to ride to the McMenamins.
I saw your plan to meet up and ride there together about 4:30 while at work, and I figured "Well, it looks like a maelstrom out there, 2 cars just wiped out on the off-ramp, I don't have waterproof pants or boots, and I've got a dark tinted shield, but f**k it, I'll ride there if I can be in a little moto-group."

I got on the freeway towards 26 about 4:40, and I'll be damned if I have ever seen THAT much standing water and rain, COMBINED, in my entire life in Oregon.
I'm sure it was much more dramatic on a motorcycle that was spooling the rear in EVERY GEAR, at almost any RPM, and not being able to see shit outta a dark visor, but I can tell you this: I rode from Moto Corsa > 26 > 217 > TV Highway > 185th, and this took over 40 minutes, and I didn't see ONE other motorcycle, even in oncoming traffic.
I actually made it to Mr. Peeps (evidently) a matter of minutes after you both left; and since I didn't know how to get to the restaurant from there without going ALL the way back to 217 > 26 > etc., I just headed home and held deez nuts under a hot faucet for a good 15 minutes to de-thaw.
I ride year round, and have even gone out on my (old) Ninja 250 when chains were required and it was snowing, but damn, tonight was just something else altogether..... No visibility. I saw 3 cars get rear-ended at stoplights, and pictured it happening to me every time I rolled to a stop.

Again, my hats off to anyone who actually made it there on 2 wheels. I ride in just about anything, but (imo) it was just a matter of safety to me, as I couldn't imagine actually riding HOME if conditions were to worsen, or if it got even darker....

Sorry I didn't make it to bike night... I was not home 'till nearly 6.

Mike, we'll help you find rain tires and wrap you in flashing christmas lights. Then you'll have traction and be visible!!

Ah, Mike it wasn't that bad! Just Oregon for ya

Thanks to all who braved it and came - I think I counted around 15 tops. I will have to see if any of the pics that Logan was snapping like mad (and had a flash-fight with Jeff) turn out.

Thanks for setting this up Lena. Saw some friends and met some new ones. It was a wet night out there and I hope that everyone made it home OK. Here is the only photo I took. Logan on the left and our hostess on the right.

Mike, I rode home along Barbur tonight from work and it was horrible. Accidents and ambulances and towtrucks all over the place, bringing traffic to a snail's pace. A commute that takes me about 20 minutes turned into an hour, so I didn't even get home until after 6:00.

My first time riding at speed through standing water. The bike didn't hydroplane, but it looked like a motorboat creating a three-foot-wide crashing wake on either side of the bike. Fun times, indeed!

I decided against riding to bike night after that experience.

Good to see everyone (who was still left when I got there). Gypsy and friends: I hope to arrange some rides appropriate to your beginner pace come spring. Maybe we can get those Rebels over the speed limit.

it was a good venue for a get together. But maybe we need to pick a different night. The live music was so loud i could barely carry a conversation. It makes it hard to be social with a large group when you can only hear the people that are sitting next to you. But it's a cool place. It was wet, but not any worse than any other dark oregon rainstorm.

I guess it all depends where you go, guys. I had no traffic and no hydroplaning issues on my half-hour long route to the restaurant, either way. Just plain steady rain.

Yeah, I think next bike nite will be somewhere else. It's more fun that way anyway.

Well. I left work around 5:15 and mark was there about 5mins after I left. I saw mark pass me cornelus pass when I was stopped at the Cheveron right off 26...tried to catch him before C.P. turned into a one lane but couldn't due to traffic and cagers being dicks...I almost lane splitted a few times..anyhow two cars behind him the whole way down C.P., which was completely dark!! and finally caught him at the old germantown rd turn.

Was great to catch up with friends and meet some new peeps. I'll agree the band was too loud, but then, they always are. And it is kinda outta the way, but, it's such a cozy enviroment. Magda, maybe we can talk about doing a pnw taco night at the bar by my house...they have a large room that can be reserved.

Anyhow, round 8, mark and I took off and just got down poured on but we were able to pretty much maintain speed. Hwy 26 was fun, exciting and scarry all at the same time. I pretty much just tucked and throttled.

Finally home I had to undress on my front porch I was so soaked then a hot shower, alittle T.V. and then off to bed

Pics look good, I had my camera but was to lazy to get it out

Yeah, man......Like I said, it wasn't the cascade of rain so much that had me worried as much as all the standing water.....I had to do a "panic stop" in the tunnel in 26 because some dumbshits decided to grenade their car brakes at first sight of slowed traffic up ahead....
Well with basically a pool of standing water in my entire lane, I knew I didn't have the traction to stop, so I just had to lane-split for a good 10 car lengths, dragging the rear and front brakes and hoping nobody decided to change lanes at the last minute : (
yeeeah, i think it was about then i thought, "f*** it"

btw I vote for Players (on Boones Ferry) for the next bike night. I believe Santi set up the last one there, and it was a blast: big location, good food, pool, bowling, private rooms, arcade and ish for the kids, etc. etc.
Plenty of parking, well-light roads from all around, etc.
