My nightmare from hell lives again! (ToR aftermath)
Well guys, some of you might remember that I ran my YZF 600r at the ToR at PIR in September. This was after I destroyed second gear on a Skyline offshoot. So, after the bike got a fresh tranny, I took it to PIR and blew it up.

Before that happened, somehow the bike made it all the way out to Pullman, Wa and back.

After that, I broke a tooth off of second gear on a group ride through Skyline and side roads. So, special thanks to Jeff for convincing Gene to let me borrow his Bandit while we waited for parts to fix my transmission. So, I got to ride this Bandit 1200 for a few weeks.

Once the transmission was done, I rode the YZF around for a while and then took it to PIR. On the straight away, some guy passed me like I was standing still (he was on a Busa, though) so I slammed down to fifth gear thinking I could catch up and get him in the corner. Instead, I blew a con rod bearing and heard a nasty clank from my engine!

(Thanks XQSME for the picture)

So, it was time to fix my motor. Dropping it took a couple hours.

I went home. The bike sat for a few weeks. It got lonely without its motor, so I gave it some intimate company.

Meanwhile, we tore the motor apart, and found that I had ruined the crank shaft. So, we replaced the crankshaft with a good used one. (thank god, because a new crankshaft is close to a thousand dollars!)

We pulled the cylinder head and cylinders off as one unit, strapping them together to save a gasket.

Engine cracked open. Looks kinda scary!

My tranny.

The bad crankshaft.

More naked engine.

This is a neat trick. Use cardboard to keep track of all the bolts. This makes reassembly go a lot quicker and more smoothly.

And, I decided to drop the front sprocket down a tooth for a little more "wow." Now the bike might actually pull 6th gear at PIR. Lookout, Busa!!!

And, finally it was finished yesterday. I rode it around yesterday afternoon and most of today. It's running better than ever, and with that new front sprocket, she really gets going!

It feels soooo nice to be riding again. Special thanks to Gene at Doc Browns, and thanks to Jeff for not breaking my piston rings. Without your help, I'd be taking the bus all winter long.

Man, that is one heck of a story. It was very entertaining, and I am glad things worked out for you. Loved the pics, too! It sure beats having to take the bus

I like the cardboard idea. I will have to try that if I have to work on a vehicular again soon...

BTW, you need to put a warning up on your thread. NWS, nekkid engine pics... B)

I'll be at the first ToR next year, but it may not be on the YZF. Rumor has it that there's a track bike in the works for me
