I'm rich!
Well, not in a money since of the word. (in other ways, yes) Anyway, I had Monday off, so i was doing some cleaning in my garage, and decided it was time to get that pile of greasy cob web covered old motorcycle and car parts out of the corner.

So after a couple tries at helping someone out with cheep parts on Ebay to no avail, it was time to take them to the recycle center. So a cylinder head from an old GS650 I don't own anymore, along with the cams, a couple warped brake rotors off my Ninja, a bent exhaust pipe and crushed stock muffler, and a couple worn out brake rotors from my Taurus went in the trunk.

I dodged cranes, forklifts and dump trucks, to throw them on the pile of scrap. Went to get my check and the grand total was....wait for it.... $1.95

Wooooooo Hooooo I almost don't want to cash the check just cause it makes me laugh every time i see a check with $1.95 printed on it.

Seriously... people steal metal to get money? Holy crap how much do you have to steal to get enough dough to see a movie, let alone buy drugs?!

Anyway, my garage is clean!... mostly

You get more for picking up cans off the street... I also though that scrap metal brought in more.

How much did you pay in gas to drop it off?

I got a check for $.85 for recycling a refrigerator.

Copper is where it’s at. I work for a power utility and annually the company spends six figures in replacing copper ground lines that are stolen out of substations.

Yeah right now the scrap market is tanked. Copper is still worth a little something because we process and use it here. I've got a buddy that owns a scrap yard, long term and always made good money. Damned thing is going into foreclosure.

World economics. China stops building stuff, they stop buying raw material, raw material stops having any value.

I got a refund check for $0.38 from a credit card that I paid off and closed the account on.

I called them and told them that I lost the check and that they need to send me another one. Did it three times. The last time they sent it certifed mail. I think it cost them nearly $10 total to send me a $0.38 check. Stupid fuckers.

Yep but even catalytic converters have taken a huge hit. I got 450.00 each for a few of them 8 months ago, now they are getting 220.00 at best.
