Motorcycle Insurance?
...I just got off the phone with dairyland and they quoted me $3,000 for a year of full coverage. I believe motorcycle insurance should be calculated with motorcycle miles not years. I am 21 male, always have had coverage, good credit, no accidents, and not even a parking ticket on my record. I am currently paying 400/year for state min. Just pray I don't crash I guess and lucky I have medical coverage through work

Super Sport bikes, like yours have always been significantly higher than other bikes. Try State Farm. They go by CC.

He was trying to sell it to me anyways I was like dude your charging me more shut up and I left lol(wasn't those exact words but how I felt). Probably something like alright I need some time to think over this I will contact you Thanks a lot and Have a nice day.

I'm assuming that's an R1 you ride?

Not surprising, even with a perfectly clean record trying to insure a liter bike is difficult without a bunch of money. It's their way of keeping kids off bikes they have no buisness on.

In any case if you can't afford to insure it you shouldn't be riding it.

To CougFan:

$1600 a year for an SV!?! What the crazy sam hill kind of awful record do you have??? Felony speed convinctions? I never paid over $1000 a year for my 650 before i tracked it, and I pay $700 a year for my 1000 with full 100/300 coverage.

I'm 27, GREAT credit, no accidents, and on a brand new Gixxer 600, I was quoted 3500 for the year, and that was the lowest quote. State Farm wouldn't touch me. This is what I was told: Because I am single, do not own a home, am young, and this bike has a high accident to non-accident ratio, my rates will be high. I was told if I was married, had a home, and was a bit older, I would see it drop. So, I bought the SV650S and I pay 990 for the year for full coverage to include underinsured motorist. The insurance companies can do whatever they want and it sucks. But that's the nature of the beast.

PM'd you some info on another insurance, they ONLY take you on at first if you have a perfect record. It's worth a shot, specially if you ride a literbike. They only have two classifications, <500cc and >500cc.

Try sending a PM Spec, he's the State Farm rep on this board and he has hooked up MANY of our fellow riders! He's even in your neck of the woods, just outside of Portland.

I have full coverage as well as underinsured/uninsured motorist, I wouldn't feel right riding without it considering my chances of an accident. I pay $525.20 for a full year of coverage on my 2007 GSX-R600.

nobody should be buying a bike w/o checking insurance rates first. OP, if you bought the bike w/o financing it, then you don't have to get full coverage...ride at your own risk.

Want to finance a bike, the finance company wants to make sure they are covered when *ahem* as so often happens, hero at the helm destroys said bike first year.

This is nothing new.

I have noticed the price varies greatly from insurance company to insurance company. From what i gather some companies charge a lot more because they honestly don't want to insure motorcycles which is why they charge so much. They figure the high price will deter you or you are just stupid and will pay them a boat load of money.

I am 30 years old with one at fault accident on my record. I am insuring a Ducati Monster 695 with 100/300 coverage and paying $540 a year through progressive.

I recently got married and had to adjust the insurance policy. Our rates went down pretty significantly, but our agent informed us that insurer's are now considering motorcycles to be the same rates as car's or more due to the lack of self control and extreme desire of squids to own one liters. The average life expectancy of a 600 to 1 liter super bike is 3 months before a claim. Due to this insurance companies got smart.

After reading all the responses I decided to look into also. I have American Family at about 65 per month. Just got off the phone with Progressive and it is half the cost per year with the same coverage. So that might also be an option for you.

Country Companies is super great, they have my vehicles, home owners and life insurance. Only stipulation is you MUST have a clean record, and keep it clean (no more than two MINOR infractions).

I, my whole family and all my friends go through Eric Lindberg (Cell & msgs 503-998-3944 or Ofc 503-924-1461).

He will even do business on Saturdays, meet with you and handle all transfers. He swings an unbelievable deal for those that keep a clean a clean driving record.

I dont want to call them to try and re-negotiate as iv had 3 tickets in the last year.... I know, i know. But as long as I dont get into an accedent or file a claim they wont know. Anyhow thats full coverage for under 25 unmarried male.

About $670yr for two bikes, one full coverage (03 CB1100XX), other minimal (84 Goldwing). Never really paid more than that, but I'm now a few months shy of 40yo. And my rates are going down next month, woo hoo!!!

It does pay to have a clean record.

Most insurance company's will not give you a good rate unless you have a car insured through them also. I have USAA fo my home and cars, but USAA makes me go through progressive for my motorcycle. $170 a year is what I pay for liability. I personally will not buy a new bike my limit for a motorcycle is about $7500 that way if I wreck I will either put it back together or part it out. I only buy certain bikes that there seems to be a lot of used parts for. Insurance is is rip off you are paying for all the idiots who drive around without insurance and who dump there bikes because they are over there heads and have not common sense. Motorcycle fatalities were up 10% last year over the previous year. I watched four people on motorcycles today cutting traffic just so they could get to the red light fast. That why motorcycle sales are falling because your average person doesn't have a credit card to put one on anymore and just insure it with liability.

Insurance rates are based on a lot of things, demographics (where you live) driving record, credit report, type and size of bike, age/gender, type of coverage and again most will not cover you unless you have an auto insured with them. I think there are parts missing from this story that he is not telling us.

I currently pay ~340/yr full coverage for my 07' R6. Covered through Country Insurance. They've been the cheapest to cover everything I have. It helps to have multiple policies. Ex: If you rent, get renters insurance along with it (often evens out/saves money).

If your interested in following up call their Gresham office and speak with Laura Zuniga, she's gone way above and beyond excellent service for me.

I got a nice quote for full coverage thx to you guys.. but found out OR DMV is trying to make me get a SR22... Never even had a parking ticket. I co-signed for my bro's bike and he wrecked with without insurance(I wasn't aware he didn't have insurance at the time). Because I am a registered owner of the vechile(co-signer) I am responsible for insurance on a vehicle I don't ride? This kind of sounds like if you loaned your vehicle to me and I got a speeding ticket and you got one because you were the registered owner? I am currently having a lawyer look at the documents that I just received. Anyone know if there is a way I can use my current insurance on bike to avoid SR22? Same bike different year R6 06.. mines a 07

DMV doesn't know, or care if you are riding it. You are the legal owner, you are required to have insurance on it in Oregon. Sucks, but you trusted your brother, and he screwed you.
