Thanks for the great ride again.

I keep dragging toes too, I need to work on foot positioning while corning. I think it also has something to do with the rearsets on the 599 being positioned a bit lower and more forward than a true sport bike, or I just suck.

You were a great sweep, though I can't make use of your mapping skills so easily from back there.

I stopped at the last downhill corkscrew on McNamee to make sure everyone got through in good shape and I was amazed at the poetry in motion. Everyone came through that nailbiter like pros. I figured the upcoming Logie Trail would be a cakewalk and I wasn't worried anymore.

Yep, as Lena said, feet on the balls all the time, except to brake and shift. You should be agile on the bike, so you can lift your weight up and down and side to side like a cat ready to pounce. Also, the first thing to get off the bike is your head, shoulder and elbow. Your butt can slide off just a bit once you get comfortable leaning your upper body into the turns.

It's becoming entertaining to see what mechanical mishap you're going to have next.

You were doing slingshots the whole way on the first half of the ride. Slingshot: slowing down on straights before a turn (and holding everyone else back) and then shooting through it.

Just giving you shit, man!

Well that's better than the alternative: going like hell on the straights and wobbling through the turns. What is that called? A Hayabusa?

I'm going to be half "tarded". More like a Tard that was hit with an ugly stick and told to live in the forest.

MAN! that was fun!
It was nice to be able to hoss the dual sport for once. It's slow as piss in the straights but getting the rear to slide around out on Mcnamee was FUN STUFF!... except that last turn by skyline and cornelius... That time it stepped out too far... pucker moment for sure

^^^Yep, that last section you were giving my sportie a run.

I noticed you and Mark put your foot down and skim it along the pavement. What happens if you really put it down? It isn't going to slide, is it?

Yep, mine slides.

Have to become familiar with the bike though, cause it can stick if you put it down too hard.

Twas a very nice 1st ride for me
Hi All:

My RC and I enjoyed the 1st ride.
I really appreciate the pace of the point rider and am looking forward to picking up my technique as we do these rides.

Everyone was really nice.

Next time I will fillup ahead of time

Was surprised as I really did not do all that much riding on this last tankfill.

Perhaps it was the Gas Gremlins????

See you all soon,

PV2

PV2, good to ride with you. I followed you on Scholls and didn't realize you were with PNWR. Nice bike, by the way. Sounds awesome.

Brian, thanks for letting me ride the GSX-R600. I've only ridden the Yamar R6S and I think I like the feel of the Suzuki better. It seems to have decent midrange and very sharp handling. The power isn't that far off from my bike, but I don't like the snap of fuel injection. It lunges and then kind of stumbles in a short flat spot. I like the progressive power of my carbed bike. But, I guess you figure out how to compensate for that. Just from the short ride I did, I think I could go quite a bit faster on it than on my bike, which pushes through turns while yours flicks and carves.

Clay, thanks for taking us on Old Germantown. I've never been on that. Love those tight curves, and maybe when it's dry, I won't be sliding around so much.

Thanks for leading, Mark. Hope you didn't mind that I took off on McNamee. I was feeling quite good and didn't want to waste that good pavement.

Sorry I was extra late last evening. I was nicked by a Portland policeman for rolling through a stoplight. He said I have two options: pay a $242 fine for failing to stop, or get the warning slip he had in his hand...

We were trying to take it easy, but the downhill portion was hurting my wrists a bit. Oh well, she is a good passenger, and I will get her railing mcnamee with me soon enough.

^^^Does she rest her hands on your gas tank, especially when you brake or when going downhill? Makes a big difference for the pilot, as you don't have her weight leaning against you.

She typically grabs at my pockets on my jacket. I don't think she is comfortable putting her hands on the tank. If I remember right, she doesn't feel like she is stable when she does that. Her and I have been riding together for 2 years, so the pocket thing works out the best for us.

^^^Well, if you're complaining about wrist pressure downhill, I think the source of the pressure is her leaning against you. So, you ought to try the tank thing. It really works. You hardly know your passenger is back there. In fact, one fellow from another forum has installed handlebars on his Gixxer gas tank so that his wife can have a real handhold. Word is they drag knee together like that.

I don't think we will be installing handlebars on the tank, but I will have her try putting her hands on the tank and see what she thinks.

nate, you got to tell teryl that she has to put her hands on the tank, i ride double up with the wife to and i know your wrists have got to be hurting if she is putting her weight on you in downhills or braking, that and you loose alot of control when your putting so much effort into holding both of you up.. trust me, tell her its more than her comfort, its both of your safety and if she wants to rid eon the back she has to be a good passenger or no passenger at all. Thats what i told my wife and she practically drags her own knee now, that and setting my suspension stiffer helped a ton for doubled up riding..

Ask her to sqeeze you with her legs. It will minimize her weight shifting around.

to using the tank. My girl has one arm around my waist to keep from falling off during hard acceleration and one on the tank to push against and hold herself from pushing into me. I can ride practically just as hard 2 up, just can't get off the bike.
