I Ride: when I think nobody's looking.
Damn that is one hot ride! This is exactly the style I want with my cafe if and when it happens. Mine will be a proper twin tough and it might end up olive drab or polished metal clear.

Cheers, dude!

Holy bump!

Lol, thanks. i just put the engine back together after finding a bad oil control ring scored the #4 cylinder.

I rode it last week, and the ignition started failing. troubleshooting begins today/tomorrow, and possibly an upgrade to some fancy Dynatek stuff

Mr. CoastiePete, I MUST SEE THIS IN PERSON ONE DAY!

It is very nicely done cafe. And you started with an L model.

I agree that the tank badges should be chrome... Maybe. I might have an extra set of badges that you can have if I can find them and if it fits.

Thanks all for the compliments.

A little update:

The bike never really ran "good". eventually, pulled the cylinders off to replace a leaky base gasket. upon pulling the cylinders off, I found #4 piston oil rings had bent out, and scored the living shit out of the cylinder wall.

I was gifted a donor bike, with a solid engine with only 16k miles. a swap of the cylinders and pistons later, and the jetting issues sorted themselves out. now the bike runs as well as can be expected, with CV carbs, and no airbox. a rack of flat slide carbs is on my wishlist from sudco, as well as the money to finish the 816cc, hi compression big bore kit i have in a box in my garage

I still have to finish the exhaust (ceramic coating), and get a "real" paint job on it. i plan on keeping a semblance of the scheme on it now.

Hey Coastiepete, can you tell me what size jets you're using and how they're working out?

I'm using the jets from a dynojet stage 3 kit. Dynojet uses their own number system, so i have no idea what size they are.

Truthfully, the pod filters really kill the bottom end, and make jetting a nightmare. The CV carbs like the airbox for bottom end. But the pods look cool, lol

Up top, it pulls really nice.

I plan on yanking them off and putting on a set of flat slides from Sudco

WOW! Thanks for posting your progress. That's an awesome accomplishment. One of my "wish" bikes, is an old school cafe bike. Unfortunately I'm not interested in building my own.

Thanks again that's awesome!
