I've been lurking here for awhile but I saw a pretty bad crash today in front of Wendy's so I thought I'd finally post. Didn't see exactly what happened, but I did see that this idiot wasn't wearing his helmet and now as a result his face is probably fucked for life. Guys face was all in blood and I could tell skin was just ripped off on his right side. The guy was wearing a jacket though... As bad as it was I don't feel bad for him at all because I bet if he had a helmet on he could have gotten up from it and walked away. Anyone see it from beg. to end? |

It was a cruiser though, I dunno what kind maybe a 90's yamaha or something to that effect. There was like 100 college students crowded around. It was right next to the crosswalk of death, UI students will know what Im talking about. Originally I thought another person got hit walking across the street. |

Not 10 minutes later I am driving the other way (forgot to get some shit at Wal Mart) and this Saturn pulls out making a left and going East, it fucking nails this old ass muscle car, right in front of me!!! This was 2 accidents within 100 yards of each other and within 20 minutes of each other. |

The point of the question is why brand the guy an idiot? Idaho doesn't require helmets, although to most of us it would seem silly not to wear one because the risks to the rider are higher. It's unfortunate the guy was hit in town, and until anyone knows what happen it seems even more unfortunate that the first comment assumes that no helmet = idiot. |

And a spot check of 10 random posts of your last 100, 9 met the criteria. So I stand corrected. Not all. Anthony.

Because he's probably saying to himself right now, "Boy, am I an idiot for not wearing a helmet." And, his girlfriend is probably saying, "Dear, I love you, but you're an idiot for not wearing a helmet." And, his coworkers next week will be saying, "Roy, you're an idiot for not wearing a helmet." Well, you get the idea. |

| Superbiker ![]() Joined: Apr 2005 From: Spokane I Ride: nothing | ![]() It's not whining, it's just not sympathizing with someone who made a dumb choice and paid the price for it. Maybe someone who rides w/o a helmet will see his face somewhere down the road and re-think their decision to ride with no helmet. For the rest of his life he'll be a walking advertisement for riding with a helmet. we don't know that's the case. Maybe it is, or maybe he's just a poor rider who took a spill w/o a helmet. In that case he'd be an idiot in my book. I'd still feel bad for him though. ![]() ![]()

I have a few friends on the Moscow Fire Dept, so the scoop I got is when they toned out for the ambulance the dispatcher said that he had gone over his handlebars and landed on his face. The EMT’s who responded stated that yes he did land on his face badly, and he was also covered in gasoline. So this is what I know. There should be something in the daily snooze paper tomorrow. |

Riding on a motorcycle without a helmet is just asking for Darwin to come take care of you. Like I said, the guy was wearing a leather jacket, which makes the whole situation even stupider. I used to race downhill mountain biking, I would get shit for always having my helmet on, even if it was just to ride from one camp site to another. Well my friends who never wore theirs all eventually learned the hard way that being hospitalized and paying ambulance fees is not very cool. |

I do feel for this guy, regardless of what he was wearing or how it happened. I too used to jump on my bike without a helmet if i was just going in town or something. Well one day i had no gear on but my helmet....that was the best choice I have made. If I had not put that helmet on that day, I am 100% sure I would not be typing this now. I managed to only suffer roadrash over 10% of my body (which is way more than you think!) and a broken neck. There was one deep gash in the back of my helmet idicating that i had landed on my neck and head at 60+.....what do you think that would have done to my head?? Smart paople do stupid things all the time and it is not out of line to say that NO HELMET=STUPID Idaho says you dont have to wear one, but idaho has many redneck laws that make no sense! |

It's the sheep skin condoms that don't protect against STD's, only having kids. I guess "any educated American" is a lot fewer people than we think!
