Talking Nice ride!
Nice ride, and I got the KLR powerwashed on the ride from Moscow to Palouse. Man, it really started to pour after I left you guys! Glad we had good weather for the main part of the ride. Good to finally ride with you all and nice to meet the new guys. Hope we can get some more rides in soon. I go back to work Thursday, so if anyone wants to ride before then...

rain gods be damned!

sorry you got caught in a bigger downpour...glad it cleaned up the bike though!

steven is off tomorrow and tuesday, so we would be in for a ride or two, and i made another, better balaclava, so its a good excuse to see how the design works.

hey jeff...which way are you coming home tomorrow? post it up if you want company!

Awesome ride, and it was good to meet the new guys! Wow, you got rain? I think that was the same shower Joann and I were standing in while she put her bike away...totally an 80s movie moment...I made it back to Pullman, but I had to deal with fog of all things on the highway. I think I like deer better.

The CB rode like a champ...I don't think I've ever taken it for a ride that long! One thing I did notice is its hard to take pics when your camera spends most of its time in your backpack! I'll have to figure out a workaround for that (and the fact that its a bit of a $#!++y camera)...but in the meantime...

The gathering at Rosauers:

Nice bikes!

Joann was late...

...but finally showed!

Then I apparently forgot I had the camera...dammit! Oh well...next time!

Good turnout! Wish I could've gone but I ended up having fun elsewhere. I'd also like to thank the group for the offers of help on getting my wheel back on. I had multiple offers within minutes of posting

Trauma: I love that green KLR! What to get for my next bike? KLR, Versys, Buellyses, FZ? Decisions, decisions.

Johnny: That CB is in damn good shape. A lot better than mine. Maybe this winter I will actually get on my project bike.

I actually made it to my first ride! That’s that farthest I have ever rode.
I learned a few things about myself:

1. I don’t “rush hour” traffic in Mascow
2. Rain sucks
3. I have a problem leaning to the right
4. Riding in the dark on wet roads in a monsoon really sucks!

I didn’t freeze like Johnny, but I did get cold.
It was fun to get out and ride with other people.
I am sorry if I slowed any of you up.

But overall I had fun and want to go out again, just not in the rain.

I am not putting my bike up till the end of October so I hope I get a few more days of sun shine.

First rule of group riding is "Ride your own ride", meaning don't try to keep up with others. Just go at your own pace and we'll wait for you at the next stop. Glad you had fun!

You mean there's more than one??? Why!

Dragon644, you did great. Good to have you along. Someone needs to chastise Johnny when he starts spreading his cream around in public.

the thing about the dual sports....

some are more for one sport or the other

the KLR looks like the best bet for both

there's plenty of street legal dirt bikes, and the v-strom is more roady...

the klr seems useable for both

You might want to look into some of the BMW line...and the new Kawi duals are pretty sweet for both riding styles too!

the klr *is* the new kawa....

the bmw's also have some good dual sports, but I'm not gonna pay extra to have my bike designed in europe....maybe I'm cheap....

There is a new Kawi beyond the redesigned KLR: The Versys. It's a water-cooler inline 2 cylinder 650 (I think it's the same engine as in the 650R). More in line with the wee-strom as the KLR is closer to the DR650.

you can call that a dual sport if you want....

but it's a street bike....it's a naked ninja650r with more suspension travel

I want it....with all my body, including my pee pee....but it's not a dual sport

they sell it in europe as a dual sport too, and the europeans are where i get my info

KLR is probably a lot more dirt worthy than the Versys. But I wouldn't be afraid to take it down a FS road. Maybe over a sweet jump or two as well.

I take the rebel on dirt roads all the time, and after pulling it "off road" at the track, I'd take it off road...cautiously.... that doesn't make it a dual sport

and it's got road tires...

Uh, why does everyone say that dual sport is good for street and dirt?

They aren't really up to par on either... Knobbies on the street suck and street/dirt tires suck for any real trail riding.

I think dual sports are at most ok for street and dirt but aren't anything to brag about, I would rather just have a dirt bike and a street bike that are just made for one or the other.

the problem, aaaaaannnnnnttttthhhhooonnnnyyyyy, is that you can't drive your road bike to the dirt with your dirt bike on the back.....

and if you can, you are on a honda goldwing....

While having both would be handy, having a bike that I could grab my gun and ride to the woods, then out in the woods, shoot a deer, ride right up to the deer, strap it on, and ride back.....now...that shit would be handy

To both of you. It all depends on the rider. I know some guys that can ride the hell out of a dualsport and go anywhere they could on a full dirt bike. They might spin the tire a few times on a wet root or rock once in a while but they're good enough to get through it.

The dual sport is no MX bike so not going to compare... Just woods riding

So it all comes down to skills.

Sorry for the late reply. It was totally awesome to meet everyone. I had a blast on the ride and hope to join in on future rides as well. I'll plan on post-ride-dinners in the future too :o)

The rain wasn't too horrible, but it did rain the most during the "fun" part. I love riding this time of year when the fall colors are turning. Perhaps we can all think happy thoughts about clear, pleasant weather for the next ride. This was also my first ride in many years (~7 I think). The bike felt comfortable, and I stayed plenty warm. I definitely need to get some riding pants and boots still.

Don't worry about your Zoolander problem Joann (sp?). You'll be "turning right" in no time. It was already mentioned, but definitely ride at your own pace/comfort level. If you feel pressuring from someone behind you, just ignore them. You can wave them past, or they can pass using the left lane if they *really* want by. I was perfectly happy hanging out behind you on the twisty section.

koorbloh, you'll have to keep your eyes open for a good deal on a Rebel 250 for me. I may be looking to get one in the next year or so.
