| MotoGP Champion Joined: Mar 2007 From: Lynnwood, WA I Ride: nekkid SV650 | I paid only $200 more than my track bike fund....and $200 is acceptable....for something that big.... I offered $550 pending him not lying to me, and a test ride....he accepted it, and then I drove to Spokane... I really liked the power delivery, LOTS of it, but it was smooth enough to handle (I didn't get the RPMs very high) It's not pretty, but the black paint (rattle can special) covers it pretty well from a distance.... and considering the price I paid, it's mechanically sound, and looks weren't part of my criteria I was more concerned with how it started cold, and ran, than how the battery was. The engine and frame and wheels looked good...that's worth $550 to me. I can live with the rest for the price I paid. But you should really see the one foot peg....it's a home build job....and....it works....mostly... |

| MotoGP Champion Joined: Mar 2007 From: Lynnwood, WA I Ride: nekkid SV650 | thanks! I'm looking forward to being able to use it! I also bought this knowing it would be a project. (buying a bike at that price...you have to expect it) I honestly don't expect to license and insure it until next spring. There's no point in licensing and insuring something that's just gonna sit until next spring anyway. I'll buy some parts here and there (what I need), when I can, and spend more time learning to ride the Rebel this fall before I go jumping on the bigger bike. I can't wait for spring though! If you come to Moscow, you may see me being very careful not to get pulled over, playing around on the real bike at times ![]() |

| MotoGP Champion Joined: Mar 2007 From: Lynnwood, WA I Ride: nekkid SV650 | thanks guys! I know it needs some work, and I expected that. I just got back from a little more of a ride than I took last night. I think the front shocks need some help, the choke may or may not work (it was pretty cold, and it is an older bike), and it needs a new clutch and brake handle, and I think one blinker light. Once it got warmed up, it started just fine. Other than that, it's street-able, as-is. Well...other than the handles, it's street-able....nicely street-able with the choke working and the shocks. Next bike night that happens in Moscow, I'm bringing it....licensed or not ![]() |

I don't have pics, so you could drive on over (I'm playing with it right now), or just wait until the next Moscow bike night.... if you're coming just call! my wife prolly won't let you in the house, but you can come see the bike if you just REALLY have to see it now! |

| MotoGP Champion Joined: Mar 2007 From: Lynnwood, WA I Ride: nekkid SV650 | close actually.... so, newest adventures: there was an extra switch, and some wires that went no where...I took them out and the bike wouldn't start.... *grumble* I start looking where these "unhooked" wires were supposed to be hooked.....nothing.... turned out...it really needed that green wire connected to ground.... made that connection again and BLAM it fired right back up! the guy who had it before...well...he didn't really know how to wire things....some of the wiring looks more ghetto than the ignition by-pass I had on the rebel! Well, anyway, in all this, I tore the front plastic off the bike, and realized why it was so loose....(turns out dropping the bike repeatedly will loosen shit up...and then wiring it back together... cracked plastics are held (up and together) with zip tie and wiring. When I tore it off....I realized that it would have to be redone.....so... I'm gonna zip tie it all back together until winter, and then tear the front plastics off and see if I can't make it useable....if not....it's a replacement front end on to the list.. bought a new clutch lever and installed it....MUCH better ordered a new brake lever....hopefully in by tuesday! oh...and the front turn signal that's not working....yeah....the bulb doesn't work, neither does the socket..but...it's getting power....but, it doesn't match the OTHER turn signal...so...new front turn signals for me, I guess....luckily, I've wired some lights before.....just need to find a way to make it work.. bleh... I'm gonna go stitch it all back together so I can maybe ride it later... Last edited by koorbloh; 10-06-2007 at 02:10 PM.. |

| Training Wheels Joined: Aug 2007 From: Moscow, ID I Ride: Human Powered | Nice Jeff! I've had several of the Honda VF's in the past. They have a great online community as well. You'll probably want to look in to the "cam oiling" problems that some of these had....IIRC I think by 87 the problem was gone, but I know the early/mid 80's engines had a real issue. The VFR should be a fantastic bike for getting around with. I'm looking forward to the next group ride with your new wheels. |
