Screw him...

I've driven that road at least twice a day, 6 days a week since 2000. The day it happened I was held up at work at the last minute because of some late copy from sales that needed to be produced. About 10 min. later I was walking out the door...just as reports of the accident came in to the station.

My point is if I hadn't been delayed, I could have easily been the one who got hit and died instead of those students from WSU. Why? Because some little narcissistic bee-yotch wouldn't get a D.D. The families of those students deserve this and more.

I hope his cellmate thinks he's cute...

good they should keep in custody 5 more years for the time he was on the run and fighting extradition too!

dumb ass, I hope this opens the eyes of some of the idiots that drink and drive, you really can hurt someone else besides yourself, and i for one think all the drunk driving laws are to lax.. they should be alot worse just because of shit like this!

I hope they cook his ass, I know they wont, cause its veh homicide or whatever but I certainly hope he gets the max on all counts

he moved to ireland to avoid prosecution,

little known fact was in the extradition proceeding, US/WA had to agree not to press unlawful flight to avoid prosecution charges until after the trial was concluded so it wouldnt make him look guilty at the trial, so I believe he has 1 more trial coming unless he pleas out of it!

hope they give him as much time as they possibly can incase i didnt state that clearly in my first response to this thread!

So are we. This should have been over with by now, but he fled. If he hadn't, he might even be up for parole in a few years.

I hope he spends his time in prison tossing salads...and not in the kitchen, if you get my meaning. No syrup or jelly either...

About time the non-remorseful punk gets what is coming to him. He'll be missing his comfy Whitman County cell very, very soon.

Frederick Russell sentenced to 14 years, three months in prison in vehicular homicide case.

“ Quote:
Frederick Russell visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, while an international fugitive. Once a month, he would light three votive candles in the church, one for each of the lives he ended in a drunken driving crash in June 2001.

On Thursday, he told the parents of those three students that he has suffered since the crash, but he knew nothing he could say would ease their pain.

“I am sorry,” Russell said. “You waited too long to hear that.” Thursday’s sentencing hearing was the first time Russell spoke to the parents of the victims of the crash. He was sentenced to 14 years, three months in prison.

“I am giving you the maximum, Mr. Russell, because that is what you deserve,” Whitman County Superior Court Judge David Frazier said.

Clutching a black rosary, Russell looked each parent and friend of the victims in the eye. He paused between each sentence, not knowing exactly what to say after he tossed away a prepared statement. He told the parents that he wished he died that night, instead of the three WSU students. Killed that night were Stacy Morrow, 21, Brandon Clements, 22, and Ryan Sorenson, 21.

“I hope this court doesn’t let this action define who I am,” he said.

Russell was found guilty Nov. 6 of three counts of vehicular homicide and three more of vehicular assault after a June 4, 2001, crash on the Moscow-Pullman highway. Three WSU students were killed, and Russell’s reported blood-alcohol level was 0.12.

Frazier did not grant Russell credit for time served in Ireland. In addition to prison time, Russell will have to forfeit his driver’s license for two years and be forced to pay restitution. The defense plans to appeal the verdict.

Thursday’s action was the culmination of six years. A time period of an international manhunt, a change of venue and attacks on the state’s handling of integral evidence. The families of the victims and those injured in the crash sat within feet of Russell on Thursday, taking turns telling their stories of loss, heartache and anger.

Rich Morrow, whose daughter Stacy was killed in the collision, told Frazier the worst part about the crash was that it was avoidable.

“I would ask that Mr. Russell stop looking for ways to save his skin and start looking for ways to save his soul,” Morrow said before the sentence was read.

Stacy’s mother, Cindy Fulton, spoke at length about her daughter’s character, slipping between speaking with Frazier and talking directly to Stacy.

“Stacy, I don’t know why you are gone,” she said. “I don’t think it’s right, and I know it’s not fair. I will miss you my daughter.” Two surviving victims spoke at the hearing, describing their injuries, and asking Russell to say he was sorry. Kara Eichelsdoerfer described the extent of the injuries and said she still has shooting pains and headaches. She told the court that she was getting married soon, but did not want to see pictures of the wedding because of scars from the crash. John Wagner looked Russell directly in the eye and asked him to take responsibility.

Russell’s mother, Linda, stood up and defended her son, saying he is more than what has been presented in the courtroom. She spoke of him as a CUB scout, an excellent athlete who was active in church and volunteered for a literacy program. She spoke about when Russell’s grandmother stayed in the family home and how he would not leave her side until she died.

“This has been a profound tragedy for each of us in our own way,” she said.

Russell’s girlfriend while he was in Ireland, Hazel McMaboe, told the court via speaker phone that the two were deeply in love in Ireland. She said she wished Russell could return to her, so the two could have kids of their own.

“He is kind and caring. He is part of my life ... my best friend, my soul mate,” she said.

During his statement, Russell said he would like to speak with families of the victims. He said he wanted to hear about their loss.

“I don’t know if any of you will ever want to speak with me ... I’ll listen,” he said.

Karen Overacker, mother of Brandom Clements, said she would like to sit and speak with Russell. Nothing he could say could ease the loss, but she would like to meet him face-to-face.

“I would like to talk to him ... I actually have a little forgiveness in my heart,” she said after the hearing.
