Little update
Long time no talk....

Lack of motorcycle activity kept me away from the forum, but now the season's come around again, unfortunately at the moment I am sans bike, here's the story...

Didn't ride at all over the snowy winter, brought the bike back up from Clarkston (where I rode it all winter) at the beginning of february when I thought the snow would let up (which it didn't). Towards the end of february the bike was innocentally gunned down by a girl who lives right above me at my apartment complex, nearly totalling it (silverado vs. kawi...). The estimate from Mac's cycle came to just over $4300. AllState (the girls insurance) is cutting me a check pretty soon, and I'll fix it all up again and be ready to ride. All the plastics are being replaced, so I'm looking for ideas for a paint job. I was thinking doing all white with black decals, or maybe white with flat black from the bottom to about 8 inches up. Also on ebay there are plastics with racebike replica paint jobs, i was thinking about doing that too. Other damage was bent clip ons, smashed lights, scratched engine covers, and broken rearsets. I guess she backed into it, knocked it over, then backed over it, before she realized what was going on.

I've been itching to ride the last week or so since the weather has been insanely nice (like it should be this time of year, right?) and the insurance should be getting back to me pretty soon, I already have the parts I need to get the bike on the road, like the rear sets and clip ons, I just need the actual bike, which is sitting at macs. I'll have the clip ons and brakes professionally done by them, but the plastics and bolt ons can be done by yours truly. Also the exhaust was mashed up, so I'm gonna get a new carbon fiber yoshi pipe, I like the carbon look over the chrome pipe i have now, and it'll lookin solid with the white plastics if I go that route. Also the wheels will be painted either black or gold. I think the white and gold would be optimum.

Here's the damage ladies and gents...

Photos don't really show how bad it is in person, it's truly mangled. All I need now is eBay and time, and I'll be back.

I understand you were selling your pickup...so...if you a ride for your bike up to Moscow, let me know, I always need an excuse to go down to macs!

sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it sounds like it will be ok in the end. just glad you weren't on it when she hit it!

.....almost.

I forgot to add that it was originally a hit and run. I had a pretty good idea who did it since I knew the time frame (about an hour) and who was parked near it (a girl... a male would be too heartbroken to see such a machine get blasted, and would instantly fess up, and girls are such great drivers ). I was heading to a golf meeting and decided to take the bike. I hopped on and it instantly didn't feel right, my right hand was really low, then I stepped back and saw the actual damage. It was at night so I couldn't see the damage as I was walking out to it. I wanted to ride still and I thought it was all cosmetic, then I saw that the rearsets were broken off and it couldn't turn right.

So I call the cops, file the hit and run, tell them that I have a good idea of who it is (gender jokes aside, I knew who it was, it just happened to be a girl), and walk all the way across campus to this meeting.

The girl comes home around 10 and comes straight to my apartment. Apologizes for hitting my bike and not telling me but she had to go to work and was late and blah blah. She happens to be a decent friend so I waive the hit and run. She asks that I just price out how much it would be to fix it and she'll pay cash since she doesn't want it going on her insurance record, so I do that the next day, come to around $3500, and she says its too much and to just go through insurance. She has AllState, and this is her first incident (surprisingly) so she uses her one freebie since they do an accident forgiveness deal.

That was all over a month ago, i faxed in the estimate 2 weeks ago (which came to $4300) and they still haven't gotten back to me. I've called Monday, Wednesday, and this morning to check the status of the claim and they say that the local rep is still "processing it". Fuck, just cut me a check, thats your job.

I got a good chuckle when I sat back and realized that she mauled my bike, but then got out and uprighted it somehow, she's like 5'4", 115 lbs. Another thing I got going my way is that when Mac's did the quote, they quoted all the stuff I got off ebay at full retail, i.e. $20 frame sliders - $100, $240 Yoshi exhaust - $890...

The shitty side is that I've been out a bike for a month, I was selling it at the time and had 3 people with cash in hand ready to test ride, and I've made 2 payments on it to the bank at the end of each month, so I'm losing money through interest.

My plan of attack now is to just get it back on the road, not worry about the cosmetics, but get the new clipons and rearsets on and ride in the nude.... the bike, not me.

...well maybe me.

...no, just the bike.

Ha, we may have to have the next bike night at Mac's when I go pick it up. The truck is still for sale, my marketing strategy has been less than par, I'm just too lazy, I'll really get on it this weekend though. I already bought a new car so I'm in no need of a ride now, I actually bought it from a guy on here in the classifieds.

Just goes to show that if you can't pick up your own bike you shouldn't be able to ride one.
(not saying you can't ... just other people I have heard have a hard time...)

Finally AllState got back to me. They are cutting me a check for the full $4300. That should be here by the end of the week. In the mean time I'm pillaging ebay for parts.
