My co-worker just sold a 2002 gixxer and his helmet to a mid 20's guy down in lewiston 2 or 3 days ago. He said the guy was covered in tat's. He said this might be the same guy?

LEWISTON - A Lewiston man died Wednesday after the motorcycle he was driving in the 700 block of 21st Street struck a pickup.

It happened around 5 p.m. According to a news release from Lewiston Police, emergency personnel responded to a report of the collision and emergency first aid was rendered to the motorcycle rider. He had sustained head injuries. He was immediately transported by Lewiston ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. The driver of the motorcycle, Adam N. Bennett, 26, of Lewiston, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officials say he died as a result of the head injuries and that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Bennett was operating a 2002 Suzuki GSXR1000 motorcycle that was totaled in the collision.

The driver of the 1997 Ford pickup was identified as Mark H. Johnson, 54, of Lewiston. Johnson did not sustain any injuries. The pickup sustained extensive damage; estimated at $5,000.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling northbound on 21st in the 700 Block at a high rate of speed. The pickup was turning from 21st Street eastbound onto 7th Avenue. The crash occurred in the intersection of 21st Street and 7th Avenue.

The collision is under investigation by the Lewiston Police Department Major Collision Investigation Team. Anyone who may have information concerning the collision is asked to call the Lewiston Police Department at 746-0171.

Must not be much discrepancy as to who's fault the accident was, or any investigation, they released the rider's name awfully quick in comparison to other stories of late...

Never been where the accident occurred...judging by the limited photos, doesn't look like the best place to be speeding...although a "high rate of speed" to a news reporter could be 37 in a 35.

One of my co-workers was there when it happened.

The dude on the gixxer didn't rear-end the pickup as was previously reported. The accident is still under investigation but it appears the truck was making a left towards McD's off 21st and the bike was trying to make a yellow light. Tough call on fault since the truck was probably already in the intersection waiting for an opening to turn left. If the light was yellow, he legally wasn't at fault.

It was more or less a head-on collision. Apparently the gas tank on the bike exploded at or soon after impact and the guy didn't have a chance since he wasn't wearing much beyond a helmet. My co-worker said it wasn't something she ever would want or wish anyone else to have to see.

Also, the area where it happened is rated at 25 MPH and he was just coming out of a school zone where the limit is 20 when lights are flashing...and I'm guessing they were at that time of day.

21st is the main drag in L-town going toward the main residential area and also where most of the fast-food and auto dealers are. LOTS of traffic, and not the place to let down your guard for even a fraction of a second.

Fault doesn't really matter now. That was a really good friend of mine's brother. He left a 7 year old, a 4 year old, and an 8 month old along with his wife. My deepest condolences go out to his family. RIP my friend.

I work down on main. And we heard the sirens. Seriously, that's terrible. If your gonna speed, don't do it on 21st, especially during rush hour. That's one of the busiest streets in lewiston. I hope his family is doing alright. Everyone knows that if you buy a street bike your gonna speed. Just choose the right places and conditions.

Update:

The LPD just concluded their investigation and determined that the motorcyclist was traveling 60MPH when he hit the truck. They ruled out alcohol or drugs as a factor.

Man, 26 years-old is way too young...and to leave a family behind because you had a lapse in common sense is just wrong. I doubt they could claim any insurance money either, since he was technically breaking the law at the time by more than doubling the speed limit. They are the real victims here...

He wasn't a noob. Damn I feel bad. I sold that bike to him about two months prior to the wreck. His fiance said he was wearing helmet, jacket, steel toed boots, etc. Upon collision he broke his C1. Report of the hospital said all organs were working, but he was essentially braindead, and passed away. :(

Not your fault man. You sold him the bike, nothing more. Common sense is something he would have to find on his own. 60 in a 25 during "rush hour" just isn't smart under any circumstances...
